cant remember password for wireless router

  • The touch just keep asking for the password. Tried the ip address but no good.

Looked at the instructions (thanks) found where it says change password but it asked for the original before we can change.....

Thought about pressing the reset button, but we had to pay to get it set up before and dont really want the extra expense.

I think the chap that set it up used a really long series of letters and numbers that doesn't mean anything.

The touch just keep asking for the password.

It will keep asking for the passphrase, it would not be a secure wireless link if it didn't!

Tried the ip address but no good.

You need to enter the IP address into your browser on a PC connected using an Ethernet cable.

Once you access the routers wireless set-up screen, you can enter any WPA pre shared key that you want without knowing what has been previously entered. Get a long random key from here. Copy & paste it to a notepad file for easy foolproof set-up.

  • right.... here goes..
The laptop I'm using to write this is wireless connected to the phillips router. All up and working great....

The new touch has found the Phillips but asking for a password (which I have not got).

On the Touch, I have found a screen that is asking for

    ip address (done)
    subnet mask (found and done)
    router ( I put in phillips 1) ???
    DNS (found and done)
search domains ( dont know what this is or where to find it)
Client id ( again don't know)

    Then it says

    http proxy

off manual auto dont know what this is.

    then says

url dont know what this is

So log into the router and sort out the pre shared key.

The rest is irrelevant until you have a wireless encryption key!

As MX5huggy has already said, if you click on the following link it should take you to the management interface of the router:

    http://192.168.1.2/

You should then have no trouble finding your way to the security settings. If it doesn't, the person who set it up for you may have changed its IP address, but most people don't bother to do that.
