DLA Advice Please?

Hi all, just looking for a little advice about DLA.
I sent off forms in December, they wrote to say they received them on the 16th.
I have had various letters from them apologising that they cant give me a decision yet, then one saying they are contacting my consultant for more information.
Today i have received another letter saying they are asking my GP for a report, just wondering if this is a good sign or a bad one lol, its hard to know
and i know there are many helpful people on here with lots of experience of DLA and how it works.
Any advice appreciated

All standard practice,if you take out christmas and new year you can expect a decision mid to late March,is your Gp aware of your care/mobility issues? If not i should go and see him/her asap(hopefully before they do a report)and talk to them about your day to day problems.
I always see my gp before returning the renewals as its only good manners to let them know they maybe asked for a report, and to ensure his records are upto date regarding my needs/condition0 -
Hello stargazer,
It looks as if the DWP do not have enough information about how your disability affects you, to enable them to make a decision.
It's better they write to your consultant and doctor for a factual report, and hopefully that will provide the information they need.
I would consider it a positive move that the DWP are trying to get a full picture.
Best of luck

Hi stargazer, I had lots of these too, they even wrote to my son's school. It took around 14-16 weeks before he got anything but it was all backdated until the date I applied for him.0

I sent my son's claim in December. They received it on 17th December. I got a letter in January saying they were contacting DS's school. I emailed the Head to say they DWP would in contact. Last week we got a letter saying they still hadn't reach a decision. The on the Thursday I got a letter saying he had been awarded DLA.. The money was backdated and had gone in the account on the Wednesday.GC 2011 Feb £626.89/£450 NSD3/7 March £531.26/£450 April £495.99/£500 NSD 0/7 May £502.79/£500

My DLA claim went in 12th December and came through today with high rate mobility and medium rate care. Fortunately I had help with the form and my GP was prompt with her reply.
They only want a full picture, but I must admit I was in a panic (thought I would not get it)It matters not if you try and fail, and fail and try again; But it matters much if you try and fail, and fail to try again.

Saffiedale - I'd say get some help with the forms - do you have a DIAL locally? (Check the phone book or your local Council site). Citizen's Advice will also help (I think you need to book an appointment). Other than that - you may find some help from an organisation/charity directed to your husband's illness. You tend to fair better with an appeal if you appear in person, again CAB/DIAL may be able to assist.0
