I'm sick to death of lack lustre NI retailers griping over the arrival of the English stores, especially John Lewis. If they were offering a decent service and portfolio of goods, they'd have nothing to fear from John Lewis. Except, that's exactly what they aren't doing. They've ploughed the same old crap for years and the slightest whiff of change has their backs up. At least Lord Rooker had the sense to approve planning for John Lewis back in the day. What a shame there's been the whole palava since. I only hope John Lewis don't lose interest and abandon their plans. In all honesty, I wouldn't blame them if they did.

I'm only amazed that JL are still pressing ahead with the application after all these years and all the hoops they have to jump through. I hope the 'public enquiry' actually takes the general public into consideration and not just business holders of the local community. Mind you will Mr Ego just listen to himself?

  • Guess it's probably worth pressing the issue given cross border trade at the minute...but you'd hardly blame them if they dropped off.

Yes, we do need a John Lewis and it would be stupid to try and squeeze another big store into Belfast. Sprucefield is easy to get to from so many places and there's loads of available parking. It'll encourage more custom from the south too.

EXACTLY! Why have JL based in Belfast AND pay loads for parking when you can have it in Sprucefield and pay NO parking!
