So what do you recon folks, should John Lewis be allowed planning permission at the retail centre at Sprucefield???
It's a £150m project, which includes 19 other retail units... not to be sniffed at... think of the jobs it would bring in these needy times
I believe the development has been opposed by traders in Lisburn, Belfast, Banbridge and Craigavon.
come on.... there's enough to go around for everyone.... The development of the Outlet at Banbridge hasn't had any major effect on Rushmere in Craigavon from what I can see, so why are Craigavon complaining... (And I live there) (Oh yeah... they're looking at expanding too... I'm supprised Lurgan & Portadown aren't complaining about that... oh yeah they are.. whinge whinge whinge!!)
Bring it on I say..... we need the construction jobs.... and John Lewis ain't the Cheapest on the high street so it'll hardly effect the shops like Sainsbury's, Tesco, Mattalan, H&M or the other independats who sell the cheaper end of stuff.. And their electricals aren't that cheap either.. so whats the problem??

Short answer YES:D
If even the local MP now wants it to go ahead, I don't see the problem, we need a John Lewis here to show other retailers how things should be sold;) and what customer service really means;)I am trying, honest;) very trying according to my dear OH:rotfl:0 -
YES! I'd agree with steveymp! Of course other retailers and shopping centres have objected, it's serious competition for them, not so much on price but on the quality of customer service - after all, all the staff are shareholders in the business, and it shows..0

It definitely should go ahead.
I resent 'traders' in other areas trying to dictate what choices I have when it comes to shopping....:mad:sufferinsnickerinrickrastadley0 -
over 2000 jobs could be created apparently, deffo should let it go ahead, bring more competition and variety to this country, been to many a john lewis in england and it is 100 times better than house of frazier and debenhams.
At a time like this jobs are needed especially those in construction.
Lets just hope Sammy Wilson isnt in charge of interviewing potential jobseekers :rotfl: :rotfl:0 -
YES
It's ridiculous that Belfast City Council and traders can hold up a john lewis opening in NI because it won't locate in Belfast. Sprucefield is convenient for many people. And I love john lewis
Also much needed jobs etc etc0 -

Yes, we do need a John Lewis and it would be stupid to try and squeeze another big store into Belfast. Sprucefield is easy to get to from so many places and there's loads of available parking. It'll encourage more custom from the south too.The stupid things you do, you regret... if you have any sense, and if you don't regret them, maybe you're stupid. - Katharine Hepburn0

I'm yet to hear a convincing argument against it.0

Intersting not a single person here so far is against it so it beggers belief why it was turned down originally and such a big hoo haa was made about it...
Only the consumer was to benefit....0 -

And we do usually have heated debates on stuff like this0
