  • Hi everyone

Its nice to hear all your experiences and everything sounds like its going well :j
Me and my husband had an offer accepted about 2 weeks ago after nearly 2 years living with the inlaws and saving as much as possible.

We had a offer in principle and went to the bank saturday to apply for our mortgage.
Im realy scared now though becuase i keep expecting them to turn us down. You hear so many horror stories
We went with Natwest! Does any one else have experiences with them? Did it take long to get a mortgage offer through?

Eeee im so impatient! Im working all hours and every day i can just to take my mind off it. Saving more though in the process :T

    Good luck to everyone :)

Hi Lauren, there are a few horror stories but there are some FTB's here who's got a mortgage approved (me included :D ). I am living with my in laws too and we have been saving lots as well. If you have a good deposit and not borrowing silly loan to income ratios, dont worry too much about getting rejected. There are always other banks to try as well. Good luck and let us know how it goes!

I'm not sure if it will be much use to you, but HSBC (i think its them) offer a fresh start mortgage which is for people who have split up. Might be worth looking into.

Thanks very much, I will do. tx
saving up another deposit as we've lost all our equity.
We're 29% of the way there...
  • Update on my situation.

We offered 10k below the asking price (It was an Offers over asking price) and stressed we were FTB with a mortgage agreed in principal.

It took an hour and a half for a return phone call to say it had been rejected! :(

Going to sit tight now and see if they call back, hoping they might be up for negotiation as we said it was our first and final offer. :)

Good luck woody, sit tight. Do you think the house is worth more than your offer?
  • Id say it was yes Elj2287, but not as much as the offers over price they have it on for.

Theyve dropped the price 20% from its peak so if they came back saying we'll meet halfway id be happy with that but not any more. Meeting half way would be a drop of 25% from peak so id be happy with that.

    Ill post any developments :D

    wannabe FTB here
trying to get credit cards paid off, should be about june/july by the time thats done then i can really start looking, have 10K at the moment for a deposit (courtesy of my mum who wont give me it to pay off the cards) but ideally looking around the 80K mark
  • We're viewing a house tomorrow that looks to good to be true! The price has dropped by £20k in the last 6months and is now in our price range. It seems very good value (3 bed semi, great location) and, if we like it, I'd be happy to offer the asking price. I worry that I'm too nice for house buying. I want everyone involved to get a good deal. I guess they won't sell it for any less than they can afford to though. Quite scary all this, isn't it?!

How much of a percentage would the 20k drop be compared to sales in the area?
It's not easy having a good time. Even smiling makes my face ache.
  • We had our offer accepted today (subject to survey) :j :T  :j :T Yippee! Been very stressed about it so glad it's all started now. Solictor and MA are now in charge of sorting things out. Our move date is 24th April! AHHHHH!

Not too woried atm as house is only 12 years ols and totaly immaculate.

So folks don't fret there is hope out there! We were given the Vendors price last week but didn't offer that. We went in low again and they went for it. Money saved is enough for new kitchen and bathroom! Woohoo!
