Honestly bud - you don't need to shop at marknsparks to survive. Get down to the low-cost German supermarkets. I spent 3 years living in Poland and so I'm used to not only these brands but this quality. You did read right I said quality. The same branded bread (if you like your brands) with the same shelf life is 35p cheaper in a well known continential foodstore. Me personally, I like brown bread and at 60p a loaf it's a snip. Pasta, noodles and rice are dirt cheap in there and the blackcurrent cordial I like is 45p a litre. (I think the big branded stuff is 64p). I also buy fresh fruit and veg - British nonetheless - for between 5p and 60p.
I forgot to mention free cycle too. A place of epic win. I've had some awesome furniture off there from a rather large well-known Swedish furniture maker...
As I said in my first post - you've just got to want it.0 -
My tastes in recent years have risen quite high - I have £1k a month to spend after rent and I tend to spend it all! Lived like an idiot for the last few years, but enjoyed every minute of it.
Saying that I still buy a lot of reduced food to freeze, my slow cooker is used most weeks and I get great results for sod all outlay really. Just a shame I then go out and spend £50 on booze!0 -
I need some comforting or knowledgeable words if possible. My solicitor is having real trouble in obtaining the following:
Freehold enquiries from Freehold nominees, confirmation the lease is either a copy of the original or a land registry official copy, coloured lease plan and electricial safety certificate.
This purchase has been rumbling on for 3 months plus (no chain either side!!!) and I'm beginning to feel like this is slipping away. The estate agents are now pushing the vendors and the vendors solicitors because I've asked that properties are sent to me to look at for potential new viewings.
Totally despondant at the moment.0 -
Hi there. I don't qualify as an FTB but just wanted to warn as many people as possible not to use Countrywide Property Lawyers. They are appalling and do not care about their clients. I have been chasing them daily and that is the only way to get things done. You have been warned!:T0

So what's the beef? Have other people had problems too?
I'm having a building survey done through my local branch of Countrywide Surveyors at the moment, and they've been excellent so far, in terms of communication. Course, I accept I may eat my best hat once survey happens next Friday!:cool:0 -
Received our mortgage offer today, and found out that the vendors have brought a property and the people they are buying off are going into rented.. so we should be all good for an October move!! :T
They accepted our offer on the basis that there was no rush on them to find a property.. and we were expecting Dec/Jan time.. it's all happening very quickly and things are running very smoothly!0 -

Thing are finally moving for me, now the fun starts my deposit is in 3 different accounts at the same bank. What is the best way to get to transfer this to the solictor?
Do i move it all to my current account and transfer it all the solcitor? They only requested 10% for exchange but to save any extra hassle/fees i thought i will transfer the full deposit?
cheers0 -

WE tranfered it all to one account and tried to do a faster payment (most places off this up to £10k), Halifax only offer this service up to £1000 so that was out. WE ended up doing a CHAPS payment (£25 fee) to our solicitor on Sat,should be there Tues (bank hols an all that!), take some ID with you though! Hope it all goes swimmingly :T

Hi all!
I’m new here..been reading for a few months now as me and my GF are aiming to buy our first house! Great to hear everyones opinions and advice.
We started looking for our home 3months ago and several viewings and different houses later we’ve finally found one we love. Its a new build, 3bed semi, ideal for us.
Asking price was 135k, maxing us out. Went and viewed the show home yesterday (again!) and happened to meet the developer, got chatting and got a best price of 130k.
Great for us, but were unsure if we should just accept this or push further...The developer told us he wouldn’t build them to sell for less than this. Does it seem like there’s room for manoeuvre?
The houses are up to first story at the min, but there’s been no progress for the last 6weeks- a £1000 deposit will get work going again – apparently completed in 3months. A mortgage agreement will only be valid for 3months so we’re unsure as to what our next step should be when we pay our deposit in the next week. Do we apply for a mortgage straight away? We’ve spoken to an advisor in the bank who has assured us that theoretically there is no problem. We just don’t no what kind of time frame to work on – if the building is delayed we could lose our mortgage. And if all goes well and we get the mortgage and the house is finished, then what??
Any advice greatly appreciated! Thanks for reading..0
