  • Thanks for all the advise! We are going with C&G and sounds like they are pretty good. We had our offer accepted on a house yesterday got it for £157k (£23k under asking price). Now we are very excited.

Congratulations Xinpei! Our celebration consisted of champagne, strippers and chicken nuggets - a little better than gas central heating! Didn't feel that good the next day though ...

We are all painted and moving in tommorow and Monday. We are doing it DIY with a van from work and a few mates. I paid Pickfords last time and they took ages, broke lots and didn't replace it - decided against the cost this time. It's always fun lowering a sofa down 3 flights of stairs, at least we have a lift in the new place - 12 flights there!

Looking forward to the pictures Xinpei!
I'm going for my QuidCo £million!

It is nice to see the value of your house going up'' Why ?
Unless you are planning to sell up and not live anywhere, I can;t see the advantage.
If you are planning to upsize the new house will cost more.
If you are planning to downsize your new house will cost more than it should
If you are trying to buy your first house its almost impossible.

Me and the wife are FTB's , we got accepted on the Ownhome scheme but i signed upto this as merely a backup if everything else failed! Luckily we managed to scrape together 15k - so we going it
    alone!!!

Was orginally signed up to Countrywide brokers, after we viewed a house belonging to the Dixon's EA. She said she would get back to us on Wednesday afternoon, with some offers, Wednesday passed - No call.

Rang up Thursday asked if i could speak to her the EA say's the MB will give me a call later - Guess what - No call.

So while all this was happening i was scouring various websites doing my research as i always do! Found my own deal which was in my budget and what i think is ideal for us, so i have got
a MIP with Leeds BS - They were offering 5.25% 5yr fixed with a £199 booking fee - thats at 85% LTV

We have found a house we love, and im going to bid 90k on Monday, the EA has advertised it as Offer's in Excess of 100k
But the vendor has already purchased their new home, and have rented it out while they sell their current home, also the EA has stated that the vendor is Highly Motivated to Sell!

I have already started getting restless nights! :rotfl:

The be all and end all.... or not.

Its very easy to sit and complain about other people making a start in life while you are sitting (probably) in your own home.

Perhaps your sole intention in life is to make as much money as possible but there are actually people here who are putting family life ahead of profit margins.

I always seem to find better deals than the mortgage advisor too, dont know why...

I've found a house me and the girlfriend really like, its on for £115k a 3 bed semi. Its liveable but dated so needs new decor/carpets through out, polystyrene on the ceilings removing and a new bathroom. Kitchens possibly 5 years old. Whats a resonable offer? i was thinking £105k but im starting to think go in at £100k. I really dont want to spend above 105k.

The house is empty as the lady died and has been up for about 2 months....

    Any ideas?

Have they dropped the price any since it's been on the market?
It's not easy having a good time. Even smiling makes my face ache.

Hi All, really interesting to read about your experiences. I am to be FTB, saving for a deposit with my partner. We have £10k in the bank now and our target is around £20, we are looking for a property for less than £200k. We could borrow much more as are both on decent salaries, but we don't see the point in borrowing more than we need to.

I have seen heaps of potential properties online. We haven't viewed anything yet as I thought its best to have more money in the bank / mortgage arranged before we start viewing. What we have done though is to go and se couple of houses from outside just to see what they look like, what the street and the area are like.

I find it very hard to be patient as I would love to go and start speaking to mortgage advisors / banks already, and start viewing some properties... Patience.. Patience...

I also wanted to ask about HIP's - on Direct.gov website http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/HomeAndCommunity/BuyingAndSellingYourHome/Homeinformationpacks/DG_171800they say "From 6 April 2009, the HIP must be available on the first day a property is marketed for sale" now does this only apply to properties that come on sale after 6th April? Or all properties for sale?

    Thanks in advance!

No, but i'm told there is a lot of intrest but from people with properties to sell...

I'm going to view it again and bring my parents. After more thinking i think £100k is a good start and would be chuffed to get it at that price.

The properties on the street sold for £130k-£140ish at peak but modernised.

Hello Jenni, I think it only applies to properties that come on sale after 6th April. But just a guess - ask an EA?

All the best in saving for your deposit!
