I may be wrong about this but as I understand it, the 7 day cooling off period is from when you order, not after they have actually provisioned it. This is why they state that it will normally take 7-10 days to provide the service.

If you cannot connect via wireless, why do you think that another ISP will help? You need to find out why you can't connect using wireless!

I am a BT Broadband customer and I use their wireless router. I had some problems setting up and their customer service, whilst a little challenged in the knowledge department (I finally figured out the problem myself) was always there 24 hours to at least talk me through some options.

Admittedly, it took me about a month or so to get to the stage where I was happy with my connection and when I complained to BT about the time it took, they gave me 2 months rental FOC.

So whilst they have their problems at least they accept the responsibility. And since the original hiccups, the service and line has been without fault.

Try posting your problems here and perhaps we can assist. My problem was something so darned obvious it was embarassing when I finally sorted it (and BT didn't even suggest it)

do u think buying one of their pc cards would help me connect without probs?

Well when I first set up with BT I used a BT wireless router and a BT wireless adapter for my laptop and it eventually all worked fine.

I then bought a new laptop with a wireless connection inbuilt and it connected straight away with no problems.

However, using BT products should not be necessary, the connection should work with all reputable products.

My problem was that I have a wireless video sender which was broadcasting at the same frequency. I switched the frequency on the video sender and it worked fine. (Took ages for me to figure it out though  )

Do you have any other equipment that uses wireless (doorbells or instance)? Or is your problem totally unrelated?

Try using a different network channel (the router will be set to use a channel from 1 to 13). If a local wireless network is configured to use the same channel as your BT router is preset with, then it could be interence.

If you have trouble finding a good channel - download NetStumbler, and it will scan the channels reporting which are used by local networks. Generally, I'd advise keeping at least 1 clear channel between you and another network.

So you bought a new PC card and turned off your video sender!

Sounds like your new PC card was not required, if turning the video sender back on still causes you to lose your connection.

You need to log into the routers control panel when connected via a network cable using Internet Explorer and find the wireless settings page. The radio channel will probably be set to the default channel (usually 6) so try changing this to 1 or 13 because you may not be able to change the frequency of your video sender unit.

    Hope this helps.

    ;)
