  • I think I might now have a duplicate order, as on one of my first calls the sales lady took my credit card details, then the line went dead. Just checked with my credit card co, & the money was taken at that point. I've also got another order acknowlegemnt emailed to me. If I receive 2, I can return one but do I return at my expense, or do dell arrange a courier?
I've tried to contact dell about this, but the 8 number order number's arn't valid, yet they've taken money?

There will be no shortage of people willing to take the extra one off your hands judging by the clammer for these so far.

Yes, good idea, I'll see what happens. Surely if they've debited my creditcard they've got to supply me with the goods?
The first order was for £312 as I ordered the upgraded battery. (well worth it, thanks doublespresso)
The second order was for £323 as I ordered the upgraded battery & let him talk me into the resource CD's, which now I've found I don't need, but I don't mind paying the extra £11 if I get the laptop.

Ordered 2 of these at the original £349 price, first one ordered Tuesday 14th (evening) delivered Saturday 18th (2nd attempt), had tried to deliver Friday lunch time while I was at work. Second one ordered evening Wednesday 15th (last day of original sale), currently in Germany after being shipped from Ireland according to UPS.

First impression is that it is a 'value for money' item, build quality is good, keyboard has a nice firm and positive action, screen image (14") is excellant, especially after turning up brightness when running off the battery. Sound is reasonable for the tiny speaker(s).

The Dell 'Cineplayer' displays an error message after a few minutes playing a DVD advising it wants to close, but I have found that if you move the message 'off the botttom' of the screen it carries on working fine. The only issue I have with it is that the image only uses a small portion (25%) of the screen and there appears to be no way of making it bigger.

I have installed Open Office 2 and VLC Media Player (an excellant DVD player that you can alter the screen aspect/size in) from a 'free' DVD that came with Computer Buyer (03/2006 edition) - And I am now operational.

OK, I have paid approximately £50 more than the £299 'offer' or £10 more than the current £339 Web Price, but I believed I was getting a bargain at £349 and after receiving the Laptop I am very happy with the value of my purchase.

Therefore if you want a good quality budget Laptop, get on and order it off the Website for £339, you will not be disappointed.

OK your not getting it for a hoped for £299, but you will still get a bargain !!
Reading some of the moaning and whingeing in this thread, you would think that Dell
had broken into peoples home's and murdered their children. Also some of the written contributions appear to me to be bordering on racist. If you are stuggling with the English of some of the Customer Service staff, try your own Urdu ;)

You are still within your rights to reject the goods under the distance selling regulations. Give 'em a ring and tell them you wish to do so - see if you get a better price.
    Worth a try...

I have just received my second laptop I will be contacting dell on monday trying for a discount on it. I will update you then. Here's an earlier post where I managed to get an 15% additional discount on the first laptop.

Just of the phone to dell. I said I wanted to cancel as the laptop was too expensive. They offered me 10% off I said 15% please and she said yes.

    4.5% off from quidco
    15% off from dell

with 6 Cell 56Whr Primary Battery [add £11.75] upgrade

brings it all in at under £300

    Bargain

Try it it may be worth while.

Hope this helps someone else to get a cheaper deal.

At what stage do you do this? Once the order has been confirmed or when you receive the goods?

BTW - are people still successfully placing orders i.e. getting through and getting email confirmation?

  • Just got the order conformation for the £323 one (upgraded battery & resource cd's)
If you try to order one, do what I did, as soon as they answer say "I must make it clear that I'm recording this call, & if my order doesn't go through I will direct this to trading standards & watchdog". On that occasion they didn't put the phone down on me!
