  • emailed - No you need to door knock. Seriously you have about 4 months until exams concentrate on that and then find a summer job.
  • So I've just turned 16 and am really interested in getting a part time job that will fit around my school hours. The thing is I don't know where to start as I'm fed up of getting rejected for my age

Is there any sites specifically for teenagers with joblistings?

Or does anyone have any advice for me it'll be much appreciated

I totally understand you about the recession too! I've just turned 17, and have looked everywhere for job vacancies, at first i was very reluctant to do waitressing or til work (personal reasons..long story!) but now i'm that desperate i'm asking about those.. and STILL no one is recruiting part-timers! Nearly everyone i've applied for have cut down on recruitment, whether its because of the recession or not... right now it's still so hard, so give the girl a break!

In my opinion being as you don't have long til your exams start, i'd concentrate on them right now, because trust me... a job will just make it harder for you to concentrate on revising and stuff. Maybe get a job in the summer, you can still aplly for summer jobs now!

but I agree with what everyone else has said on here... if you really really want a job keep trying, anywhere you can find thats within reasonable distance and reasonable pay etc.

Good Luck, in my experience you'll need it!

There are still jobs on offer even if in the midst of a recession. Apply for all the normal jobs, mcdonalds, KFC, pizza hut, local pubs etc. If all else fails, make your own,

e.g. in newsagents in your area a sign comes up like

" DO YOU NEED ANY HELP?

I am 16 years old and trying to save up for university. Do you need any help around the home. I'm willing to do any small tasks - washing, ironing, gardening, cleaning, dog walking, baby sitting or anything else! No job too small!

    Call

XXXXX on XXXXXXXX (time to call). "

& maybe print off 500 leaflets and deliver them to houses in your area.

As your loccal Authoritys EDUCATION WELFARE dept is the one that looks out for young people in work, maybe a quyick phone call to them tomorrow might be in order as they may know companies in your area that take people on?
 Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
    This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast

Rather than trying big names companies, it might be better to approach smaller traders.

My daughter saw a new restaraunt was due to open in town, so knocked on the door and asked if there were any part time waitress jobs going. As a result, she now does Saturday nights and a night in the week.
I dare say it's all cash in hand and no questions asked though  ..... something a sole trader can probably risk trying to get away with , where the likes of McDonalds can't.

I'm 15 (turn 16 in July) and have decided that when I get 16 I'm going to get a job. This works well for me as I don't want a job until my GCSEs are out of the way. I have a 15 year old friend who has got a job in a local pharmacy, she does 4 hours every saturday and gets £20 a week. Have you considered looking into wherever you did work experience, I know several people who having made good impressions have been invited back depending on the type of job. As I did mine in a dog's home I'm looking into going back during the summer to do some voluntary. I really enjoyed my time there and it looks good on uni applications etc.
Good Luck on the job front and keep us updated :D
ETA I know someone else whose mum works in a libary and she has been offered part time employment there because of her mum but worth looking into it anyway.

    Jobs I have had:

    Age - Job
15-20 - Programme Seller for local football club
    16-20 - Dominos Pizza CSR
17 - John Lewis Xmas Temp
18-now - Student Ambassador for Uni.

I could go back to the first 2 whenever I want.

Can't believe people are saying no jobs available, load of rubbish. They want people with experience? No they don't, they want cheap labour, so those with less experience will be cheaper to employ! I think its the people that go around spamming their CVs and expecting to get jobs are the ones complaining. If companies want labour they will advertise! Or you could ask them if they are, they are more likely to respond that way. When I worked in Dominos, anyone that gave in a CV or asked for an application form just had theirs thrown in the bin if we didn't need anyone. When we did need people they would be kept out and looked over.

Supermarkets are also another option, although not my cup of tea.

Just wanted to add my half to this story!
I was looking for a job last summer, walked around town nowhere had job vacancy signs etc. If I had of accepted that as fact I wouldn't have got the job I have now!
I handed my CV in at 10 places - got interviews at 5 and job offers at 4, none of these were advertising for staff.
I just went to customer services or a high up looking person and asked if I could give them my CV - a couple said they couldn't take it as they had no jobs at the min - but most took them.
Even if the application does go in the bin, at least you tried, you never know exactly how each compny deals with the job application process.
    Good luck

Not narrow thinking at all I didn't say it applied everywhere I'm looking for a job for ME at the moment in MY AREA not everywhere else and at the moment in MY AREA it's affecting badly

Same in my area too, no low paid jobs for teens. We have an airport on our doorstep and an ever ready stream of people coming of the planes ready to take the same jobs that the kids would be aiming for.

I think anyone in education should just concentrate on that and start looking for work in the summer, because it is more likely to have picked up by then, this time of year is usually pretty quiet job wise anyway, let alone in this climate.
