Jobs for Teens

So I've just turned 16 and am really interested in getting a part time job that will fit around my school hours. The thing is I don't know where to start as I'm fed up of getting rejected for my age

Is there any sites specifically for teenagers with joblistings?

Or does anyone have any advice for me it'll be much appreciated

  • I'd be interested in this too, I've got a 15 year old who is itching to start work so he can start saving up for his first car.... An Impretza (Sp?).

I'm shuddering to think what the insurance would be on that and trying to persuade him perhaps something a little smaller might be more suitable but as he is currently 6ft 4 we are struggling.

PS Have you tried phoning round hotels for jobs maybe waiting on the tables and doing dishes. My son is still too young for this just now.

Good luck by the way and keep us posted.

PPS Have you tried the local council youth clubs?

When I was 15 I started work at my local pub as a waitresses as did may of my friends so well worth asking there. When I was 16 I got a job at Sainsburys which was great as they gave me extra shifts in the holidays and flexiable around school!

    Hope this helps good luck!

Most hotels only offer cleaning jobs to under 18's as most other roles can include bar work.

My advice would be to try Primark and those kind of shops - it's where me and all my siblings started at 16 and they've always got loads of overtime, which is great during school holidays.
  • It seems impossible at the minute to get any jobs due to the recession and everyone wants someone with "experience"

  • Im Sorry but dont be giving me any rubbish about the recession. The recision does not effect low paid really and many shops like tesco, asda and co-op are even creating more jobs.

All the above, McDonalds, restaurants, hotels.
And good for you all for actually wanting to earn your own money.
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.
  • not for 16 year olds who haven't finished their GCSE's yet and I will give you that rubbish because I've already tried at asda and morrisons and am not willing to travel 1 hours 30mins every day to my nearest tesco

  • I had a waitressing job for a while, among other things...had absolutely no experience, but I think for jobs like that being able to show enthusiasm and evidence of other qualities they'll be looking for, such as willingness to work hard on your own and as part of a team, etc is just as important.

If you want some help/tips, feel free to PM me and I'll give you some advice which may help :)

Might sound a little boring, but I worked in a library on a Saturday between the ages of 16-18. It was only every other saturday, for about 3.5 hours (would vary between libraries due to their opening times) - but it was very good money. Could be worth enquiring at your local library - I know a lot usually have a waiting list, but you might be in luck, and it could fit around another job? I thoroughly enjoyed it actually, carried on working in the library until after I'd graduated, and the pay was great, well above the national minimum.
