emlou, tin of sweetcorn usually sorts me out  :rotfl:
Now we take bets on who has baby first, emlou or MFD
I'm on MFD. And did you tell mw about the bleeding?0 -
Well nothing except the doctors that is... It seems as soon as you go over the hospitals 'late' date (which here is term + 12), they are all over you trying to get you induced. I should point out here that I am of the belief that there is no reason to interfere with baby just for the sake of it. And I appreciate a doctor's duty is to inform people; however you would not believe some of the absolute gems I have been told since Sunday...
"You CAN'T have a home birth once you get past 14 days" (Erm actually I can - and actually you can't tell me what to do or not do either, why do you think you can?)
"We're changing you from midwife-led care to consultant-led care and that's non-negotiable" (Fair enough if you're going to do that but don't put anywhere that I actually agreed to it!)
"We can't tell you what to do but..."
"The research shows that the risk of stillbirth after 42 weeks is..." (This research then - are you actually going to tell me which research it is because every one of you has given me different statistics and none of you have actually told me which piece of research you are referring to...)
"We prefer to induce you after 42 weeks to avoid any risk to baby" (So if you're going to tell me the risks of refusing induction, why aren't you balancing it out and telling me the risks of induction then?)
It's quite ironic when I talk to the midwives and they explain that actually, although I'm 15 days over my due date, there isn't anything wrong with me or baby that merits a hospital birth.
As you can probably tell I've got a bit of a bee in my bonnet about this so I'm going to go off now and take some deep breaths...!
Hi Jo,
Sorry it all sounds so frustrating! that you are recieving such ill-thought through, knee-jerk risk-averse recommendations.
Really hope you are able to assert the birth you want.:T:T:T
Fascinated by your thoughts too at a personal level, being keen on a home birth myself, and unsure what to do if we go to 40+13. I know there is a template letter on homebirth.org to the head of midwifery care asserting that the woman has done her research and is still comfortable with a post-dates delivery at home. I can post the link if you'd like? Even if you don't want an HB now (sorry I've not read your posts so I'm not sure what you were hoping for!) you could use the letter to state a wish for a midwife-led birth?:D
Just a thought anyway! There are some stories on there of people being able to do things you aren't 'supposed to'!;)

Who mentioned being mother of the bride? It dawned on me then that I might one day be some poor girl's dreaded mother in law! That said, my domestic skills are hardly anything to be intimidated by!
