Preventing snacking between Breakfast & Lunchtime

I was a HUGE snacker (in terms of what I ate and waistline!!)...
If I am hungry mid-morning, I have (another) glass of water and wait 20 minutes. If I a) haven't forgotten about eating, b) am too busy to eat or c) aren't hungry anymore, then that's fine. On the occasions that I am still hungry, I have an apple or pear.
I have a bowl of Special K with skimmed milk, and a cup of tea for breakfast, about 7.30am. I've usually done 2 hours of outdoor work by the time I leave the house to go to my actual full-time job.
I have 1 chocolate bar a day (a Penguin bar or 2 finger KitKat usually) and today still haven't eaten it, and it's 10 to 4  . I always enjoy it more if I think "I won't eat it until 3.30pm/4pm", and it gets past that time and I munch it, and feel better for it, and not so much like a fat pig for eating it!0 -
I have boiled sweets, bit more subtle than eating a pack of biccies (though I do that too sometimes
).
I find it's boredom that triggers it. If I am busy and interested in my work that day then I snack less.working on clearing the clutterDo I want the stuff or the space?0 -
newlywed, same here! It is pure boredom at work.
Thanks for all the tips, I am finding them very helpful!! I'm going to try eggs and grilled bacon for breakfast tomorrow and see how I get on.Get to 119lbs! 1/2/09: 135.6lbs 1/5/11: 145.8lbs 30/3/13 150lbs 22/2/14 137lbs 2/6/14 128lbs 29/8/14 124lbs 2/6/17 126lbs

i always have a good breakfast:
mammoth sized bowl of porridge, beans on toast, poached/scrambled egg on toast, pilchards/sardines on toast with cherry tomatoes on the top, bacon and tinned tomatoes with toast/scrambled egg.......................... if i get the hunger pangs bout 10.30-11 then i have a banana or some almonds/brazil nuts.
As said before, snacking is not generally bad for you as it keeps your blood sugars stable, its what you snack on that can be the problem............

I used to be the worlds worst snacker, but I'm following slimming world now and am all but cured!
I have porridge with skimmed milk and sweetener for breakfast and either add a banana or have a piece of fruit seperately. I always have a glass of water before a meal or if I'm feeling hungry. I bring fruit to work with me just in case I'm really hungry.
I also make salsa (finely chopped onion, chili & tomato with juice of 1 lime and chilli powder to tast) and bring veg sticks.0 -
I also agree on porridge and protein. I try to balance protein and a lower GI grain and/or fruit. Fruit juices tend to send the blood sugar soaring and then you crash later. An actual piece of fruit tends to minimize the soar and crash, and they usually have a lot less calories. Even some cheese on your toast will hold you longer than toast and jam.
I sometimes have beans on toast or a small amount of leftovers from the night before for my breakfast. I'm satisfied and don't get the snack attacks. Unless of course there is chocolate around.Take the first step.
Even if you cannot see the whole staircase,
Just take the first step.

As others have pointed out porridge is a good filler for breakfast especially as it has slow release qualities. The other option would be dry oatcakes - some people think they're a little like eating dry cardboard but they are quite filling.- prior planning prevents poor performance!

7:30 am until 1pm is over 5 hours - it's perfectly okay to eat something between breakfast and lunch. I would be hard pushed to go that far without eating.
There's nothing wrong with a banana or an apple at 11am or so, which is what I tend to do which keeps me going until lunch.
And I do have porridge or egg and toast for breakfast, but I would still always make sure I have something small between breakfast and lunch.0 -
I've found the ultimate cure for snacking - get a brace! I've just had mine and am strictly not allowed to eat between meals.
I usually have cereal (porridge made with milk and raisins) and a piece of fruit for breakfast, which sees me through. Sometimes I have toast (though on bread at mo as can't yet do toast!) and fruit, or very occasionally boiled egg.
I wasn't a great nibbler, though did have fruit and/or cereal bar mid morning and afternoon, plus something later in the evening too. I'm hoping to end up with a new figure as well as new teeth at the end of it all!somewhere between Heaven and Woolworth's0
