They thus provide all passengers with an authentic experience of the English class system.
Hee hee! Quite. Although by flying Ryanair, the less than sphisticated air hostessesget their own back on the middle class gite owners...!

Erm...... I don't mean to belittle the roll of cabin crew..... But selection based on social background?Voyager2002 wrote: »BA focus on their premium passengers, and so they recruit cabin staff whose social background is such that they can make premium (club and first class) passengers feel comfortable. The very fact that said persons are hacking their patch earning a crust as cabin crew should be enough to tell them, the world and his wife that they have no reason whatsoever to believe that they are in any way superior to a living soul in a paid for seat.

Just to let you know that NO crew are not recruited based on social background  thats crazy! customer service skills amongst others is crucial.
Working in premium cabins is based on promotion at my airline and at BA it is length of service. to always work in Club or First at BA your looking at around 5yrs + to be first trained ( on average )
In relation to feeling or acting superior onbord NO we are not superior to pasengers and no crew should act that way IMO! But, at the same time we are not waiters or cleaners. 6 weeks training to be nurses, fire fighters and self defence is not somethng to be sniffed at either. Our primary job is the safety and security of the aircraft and passengers, rather than only serve 200 cups of tea !
Personally I was a branch manager for a high street bank before I flew, and yes I work in Economy and also in our upper class cabin and I for one respect every passenger that is keeping my company in the air and allowing me to still have a job in these troubled times, reagrdless if they are a passenger who has won a holiday to Orlando in Economy or Kate Winslet coming home from LA in Upper Class- its all the same to me
AI am a Travel AgentMy company’s ABTA number is V2043. MSE doesn't check my status as a Travel Agent, so you need to take my word for it. This signature is here as I follow MSE's Travel Agent Code of Conduct.
I am also Cabin Crew, my posts are my own and not that of the airline or other company0 -
How much did you pay for your flight to Rome with BA?0

Cabin crew find first class or business class passengers can be difficult and demanding. They usually prefer to deal with economy class.0

BA miles plus taxes. But the flight was packed - cant imagine they have the time to look up who to be nice to and who not to be nice to?0 -

But that's why you work for a different airline! In my experience most airline crews do take the time and care to look after passengers properly (the old 'treat someone as you would expect to be treated' mantra really is true), yet I've never met a BA cabin crew member who treated me even as a human being, let alone a fare-paying passenger.0 -
It is Pot luck really with any major airline. I flew with Virgin to HK last year and they were really friendly and attentive on both legs but can I trust that I'll always get that service? Who knows!??Minds are like parachutes - they only function when open.

I have just returned from the US on my first ever BA flight. I definitely would not chose them as preference.
Going out the crew were either beasts that could barley fit the uniform and looked as mean as anything. The foreign crew members were so rude to people.
On the way back the crew were better but still scurried down the back of the plane for breaks as often as they could.
I would always chose Virgin over BA anyday. If not just for the fact that I can have loads of films to watch. I could not believe that I could only watch one of 2 films at a time and they were not on demand, rubbish!
I got a seat one up from cattle class on the way out. All I could figure out that was different to being at the back was a pen in the amenity kit. Horrid huge plastic headphones and a footrest that was not really positioned correctly on my seat.0 -
Just reading the different reviews on here is quite interesting because as other people have mentioned, it depends entirely on what staff are on your flight IMO. I have have flown long hall with BA, Virgin, NWA, Air France and BMI and out of them all I would rate BA as the best for customer service.I would always chose Virgin over BA anyday. If not just for the fact that I can have loads of films to watch. I could not believe that I could only watch one of 2 films at a time and they were not on demand, rubbish!
I have expereinced the opposite to this. First class entertainment on demand with lots and lots of choice for all ages on my BA flights and with Virgin it was a case of either waiting for a film to start or catching lucky and managing to find a film that was just about to start or had only just started. This is more to do with the aircraft rather than the airline because obviously different planes have different systems on them.
I have flown with BA quite few times and my experiences have always been pleasent. I think it's a bit harsh to judge an airline after one flight alone (unless your experience was absolutley awful), I'm flying again with Virgin in a few months time so I will reserve any judgements on their customer service until then as my first experience wasn't the best... I'm always willing to give a second try!0
