I just don't understand why you can't open a current account if your credit file is in good nick. Are you registered on E.roll? Have you checked out with Experian as most banks credit search using Experian when opening current accounts.0 -

If Barclays decline you, they should have offered you a Cash Card Account. This account is exactly like the other current accounts they offer, but not option of overdraft and chequebook. It does come with a debit card. By the looks of it, you declined the offering of the Cash Card Account, which you shouldn't have done.0 -

and no Nationwide *sigh* looks like im trapped with Natwest lol
What about Lloyds?
Have you tried them for a current account?
I had a Nationwide Flexxaccount and applied to Lloyds and got a Classic current account with a Visa Debit card.
All that Nationwide was willing to offer me during the 5 years of having a Flexaccount with them was a Cash Card.
Don't worry about Nationwide!0 -
Also, since you have been declined a few times for a current account, I would suggest applying for a basic bank account. Most banks offer a debit card with them now, assuming you don't need credit facilities like overdrafts and chequebooks. Refer to the banks you want to bank with for more details.
After running the account (at least 6 months) for a while, you could look for an upgrade.0 -
Hi Book 12, No I didnt get offered another account, I applied online got the usual message we will contact you regarding your application then about a week later just got a letter saying they were unable to open an account because I do not meet there required credit score, they enclosed a leaflet that explained how they credit score ie full one pulled from your report or one based on account conduct, no mention of offering another account in the letter, never mind, lol, far force things in the world than Crapwest, well once again thanks everyone, ill draw this to a close now, no point crying over spilt milk as the old saing goes, Ill maybe try at the end of the year again0

You didn't get offered another account, as you applied online. If you applied in branch, they would have opened an alternative account for you.
If you really want another bank account, go for a basic bank account where you won't get credit scored. Most of them offer a debit card with them now. http://www.moneymadeclear.fsa.gov.uk/pdfs/bank_accounts.pdf0 -
If you receive bad service from Nationwide then follow it up with a complaint to the area office. All complaints are taken very seriously and is something that the staff dread. I work for a small branch and we are very proud of our customer service (and we aren't ex-Portman either). If you can find a good branch they will do their best to get you a full FlexAccount as we get a referal for this and as we are all targeted on our referalls it is something that we work very hard for. Nationwide have a tough policy in place regarding the offer of Flexaccounts as they don't want to increase their risk which is understandable at the current time. However, they are a business and therefore need people to use their services.0
