Anyone else had any problems opening a Nationwide account, going though the application at the end it said we are unable to offer you a flexiaccount at this time, then it shows as application cancelled in the online banking not as declined, do you think this could because I took over 10 mins filling it out as had to keep getitng up and leaving the desk or will it show as declined if they definatly didnt want me ?

I had the same thing, just thought i was declined as nationwide are very fussy. Got me thinking now, it did it twice though a few days apart and the credit searches are showing on my credit file. Not brave enough to apply in branch so the girls can have the satisfaction of telling me i'm declined.0

Have you checked your credit file for the reasons behind the decline.0 -

Try applying for a basic bank account - after a few months if you use it well most banks should upgrade you to a full current account:

If it helps we went from natwest to halifax and the service is just as bad, want to move to nationwide as my parents rave about them, but the staff in our local branch weren't too helpful when we wanted kids savings accounts. I think the service in most banks is terrible, the staff give incorrect info and are useless at sorting out problems, i prefer to deal with the machines when paying in and use the online facilities as much as possible. I'm surprised halifax wouldn't help, they recently gave me a current account.0

When I asked for an overdraft on the flexaccount, it declined me. But I reapplied without asking for an OD, it went straight through

The branch staff at Nationwide are hit and miss.
I had to put in a complaint about a manager to head office because she refused to do something that I couldn't do over the phone or online. And then when she finally allowed me to do my transaction she interrogated me and was extremely rude. Even though it was apparent that I was writing down the names of all the staff who were serving me.
Luckily for me there is still an old Portman branch open so I use that instead of the Nationwide branch.
The staff on the phone are always friendly. There are sometimes problems with getting through around 9pm in the evenings.
There as other banks I've been with the staff either both the staff over the phone AND in the branch have taken the micky or been rude particularly the Halifax and Natwest.I'm not cynical I'm realistic

lol, ill just give in and stay with Natwest dont want to hit my credit score with more declines lol, although I cant see how they did a credit check lol, I mean litterly I pressed submit and not even a second had passed and it just said "We are unable to offer a fleciaccount at this time" at that was it, took me back to the page where it shows you apply and it just says cancelled lol, how odd, at least I would put Declines in like many other places lol0
