Is there anyway on a smartphone such as HTC hero to make free outbound international calls when in a WIFI zone?
Hi You can use the free application sipdroid that can be found in the market to use any of the previously mentioned sip providers (eg sipgate.co.uk, voipcheap.com etc) from your htc hero. I used my hero to call a mobile in canada from the uk using sipdroid and sipgate.co.uk at 1.5p per minute but it can also be used with the voipcheap.com and their 'free' calls (such as they are).
This app can be used over wifi and 3g (not sure how much data it uses though)0 -
In a small business looking to cut costs what would the best and cheapest types/providers of VoIP to get to replace a regular landline?0
-
Unless you are in a cabled area, you're still going to need a landline for ADSL internet/VoIPTime has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0

Voipdiscount, Voipcheap, Voipbuster, etc are brands by Betamax GmbH aka Dellmont Sarl
I have been using Rynga, one of their brands to make SIP calls.
Since May this year, I was incorrectly charged 12 times! Everytime, I reported details to their customer service.
Most of the time they do not reply. When they do, they never give a specific reply. Only copy and paste replies asking to look at their 'terms and conditions', 'FUP policy', check my 'call history', and so on.
I had read through and was familiar with all of that before I messaged them in the first place!
Has anyone else been experiencing charging errors?!
Any advice on what to do?

Can anyone tell me if using skype (and getting a skype phone for relatives without skype) would be a cost-effective idea for phoning people in uk when we move to Sweden please?? Thanks0
-
I've just emailed voipbuster as I got a message saying I am over their weekly FUP of 300 minutes. I just checked my account and only used 227 minutes over the last 10 days so that's rubbish!0

But if you are using Skype to call people without Skype, then there are cheaper offerings from others providers such as LocalPhone, PokeTalk, Mo-Call, and Betamax clones.
Betamax clones are the cheapest but they make mistakes and do not put them right. After sales support is useless :-(
Rates by Betamax clones vary a lot. Check out these comparison sites to find the best for the countries you call
