problems with listing books on amazon with comments added

Hi

Just wondered if anyone else has been having the same problem as me. I've been listing books on amazon for a while now, and have a box of books that have all got their front covers missing.

I have been listing them as GOOD as apart from a missing cover they are good copies. And under sellers comments FRONT PAGE MISSING. However this has caused me problems in the past with people emailing me to have a right moan about the state of the book! So now I email people before I post it to mention it.

However this is still causing problems, the buyers email me back to say they haven't seen the sellers comments and ask for a refund. One lady emailed me this morning saying it was actually listed as a good book and she didn't want to buy "damaged" goods so I have had to refund her.

But when I relisted the book and searched for it, I can see it quite clearly!

A book with a page missing can't really be good, if you read the Amazon definition of book categories that would be only acceptable.

Personally I would take your books down a category to be safe.

If it is actually a cover missing then Amazon say they can't be listed at all actually.

  • Hi thanks for your comments.

I would have thought acceptable would be a book that is just about readable! But will take on your advice and list them as so. Must admit never seen the amazon book categories on amazon will have to take a look plus didn't know I couldn't actually list them in the first place.

Real shame these are really old mystery books and out of all my books these always sell.
  • could someone please post the links for finding both the catergories and where it says I can't list the books?

    Used books
    • Like New: An apparently unread copy in perfect condition. Dust cover is intactv with no nicks or tears. Spine has no signs of creasing. Pages are clean and not marred by notes or folds of any kind. Books may contain a remainder mark on an outside edge but this should be noted in the listing comments.
    • Very Good: a copy that has been read, but is in excellent condition. Pages are intact and not marred by notes or highlighting. The spine remains undamaged.
    • Good: a copy that has been read but remains in clean condition. All pages are intact and the cover is intact (including dust cover, if applicable). The spine may show signs of wear.
    • Acceptable: a readable copy. All pages and the cover are intact (dust cover may be missing). Pages can include considerable notes--in pen or highlighter--but notes cannot obscure the text.
What we will not accept for sale at Amazon.co.uk: mouldy, badly stained or unclean copies; copies with missing pages or obscured text; promotional books, including advance reading copies. Uncorrected proof copies are prohibited.
Be sure to describe your books in an accurate manner. An accurate product description increases buyer satisfaction, helps sellers build a loyal customer base, and ensures positive feedback ratings. Should a book have an obvious cosmetic flaw, sellers are strongly encouraged to make a note within the comments field. The presence of a remainder mark should always be noted in comments. Advance reading copies and uncorrected proofs are not permitted.

Good and acceptable both say the cover must be intact.
  • Thanks for that. Bit annoying in a way as I recently contacted Amazon by email regardiing some feedback that was left due to the front cover missing when it was listed under the sellers comments. They never said anything about me not actually being able to list it.

guess I'll just have to ebay them, ho hum.

Acceptable allows for missing dust covers, does the OP mean the dust cover was was missing from their books.

I was going to say are they hardback books without paper (dust) covers.
If so then surely you can say that in the description.... or try ebay instead?
