Advice needed please. my husband whom is disable being laid of work for 2 weeks. help

hiya. sorry if this is wrong place, . but we so need some help advice please.
Please advise us, hubby works from sunday evening to fri mornings, perm nights.

This friday 20th feb UNTIL the 8th March, all his work are laying everybody of work for 2 weeks UNPAID.
They decided this would be better than dish out redundancies as work will pick up after 2 weeks hopefully.

background info:.

Hubby works 39 hr /wk.. in the asutomovtive trade.....
nightshift as a plastic moulding engineer
24000 per yr

hubby is 40% disabled due to a loss of part of his thumb...(accident at work, was composated last yr) , also a torn ligament in his knee. Hubby also has a underactive thoyriod and asthma.
1, hubby gets industrial injury disablement benefit at 40%.. roughtly £54.72
2, claim for DLA in place.......
YES, SORRY HE GETS INDUSTRIAL INJUIRES DISAMENT BENFIT FOR HIS KNEE....... DLA IS GOIN THROUGHT AS WE SPECK1..
Me and the children.....( i dont work) ..
1, child benefit for all 4 (ages 15, 13, 8, nearly 3 yrs )
2, child tax credit for them.. (£139.00 weekly)

We pay full rent and full council tax which is a week:.
Rent.£79.00
Council tax a month is £102.00

Now we have been told to call on the monday the which is new to help people whom are laid of work due to the ression.
Rent officer yesterday . handed in a claim fror hb ctb for the 2 weeks.

Now hubby has mobility probs due to his knee problem and which he uses a stick to help him get around, but at work he dont use the stick due to heatlth and safety, so he relies on his pills alone to get him through the shift alone.

1.....Has anyone heard of this 'new' benefit to help people whom been layed of work temperary?.

2......As my youngest is under 3, would i be able to claim milk tokens for the 2 weeks, while hubby is not working?.

3...... Is there anything else, anyone can think of which we may be able to claim for?.

Its very frustrating when your not used to being thrown into a situation like this, as you dont know what to expect / what to claim for etc....
Please, advise
thanks so much

Is it his knee he gets the DLA for? You haven't mentioned the asthma but that is the only other health problem which he'd receive DLA for.

We are nearing the end of the tax year and if you have earned less than last year, you will get so much back from tax credits after you renew. Probably not much help now though.

He will receive DLA and you will receive the tax credits and child benefit. Will he still receive the injury disablement benefit?

Have a look at the Old Style board for tips on cutting your shopping bill as, if you are not paying rent or council tax you may be ok for a couple of weeks?

The only 'new' benefit I am aware of is ESA.

Your husband sounds like he might be entitled to that. It can take a while to sort out though.
  • hiya thanks . but wats a ESA?.

    many thanks

If he is in a Trade Union ask them for the free legal advice they give.
Go to your GP and ask them for a letter listing the medical conditions relating to your Hubby Tell the GP also how the medical conditions affectS his life and ask the GP to also put this information with the letter.
Apply for IB or ESA..(INCAPACITY BENEFIT/EMPLOYMENT SUPPORT ALLOWENCE.
Speak to your local welfare advice supporter (number in phone book or on internet) or failing that your local CAB.
Many benefits are based on the total income for your household. you may get more TAX CREDITS..if you get TAX CREDITS NOW..inform your local TCO and tell them them of your change of circumstances.
    Best of luck

Employment and Support Allowance. Payable where the claimant is sick and unable to work. Now, with medication, your husband is able to work. He should still be entitled though.

Be careful about lowering your award at this stage in the year as you may take yourselves into an overpayment situation whne his income rises again.

If you leave it as it is you have a £25k income disregard but if you lower your income, you can end up with an pverpayment if you earn anything more than the new figure you supply.
  • I'm puzzled why everyone's suggesting he applies for ESA. At the moment he's obviously capable of working and he'll only be unemployed for these 2 weeks because his company is closing down for economic reasons rather than because he's ill.

Apologies if I've missed something but I really don't think ESA is appropriate here.

It can be claimed is my point. I dont think he would have any problem getting a med3.

    JSA is the other option.
  • whats a med3 ?.

sorry, but never heard of it?.
