Very low upload speed any ideas?

  • as will, probably, changing ISPs to one that doesn't charge buttons :(

My local exchange is not yet unbundled, and as we live rurally cable is out. Do you have any suggestions, as I had thought that seeing as it's a BT line the isps I could get would all be much the same in that they are using the same equipment? Are there really differences? I am not a huge fan of aol and would leave for a better offer, but I have used them for years and the service has been at worst average, unlike horror stories I hear about other isps. And buttons? I wish - I could only get them to drop to £17.99 unlike the £9.99 or less people manage in LLU areas.

I'm  then. How does the second phone work then? "we have a 2nd digital phone plugged into bedroom so it's tolerable" Is this not a cordless/wireless phone, that could be interfering?

When you obtained the second stats, did you actually do any speed tests?
Ok I will clear up the 2nd phone thing, we usually have it plugged in so the household can have 2 phones, but the battery is knackered  and does not hold power so we have left it unplugged til we can be @rsed getting a new one. The one in the living room is a digital cordless phone.
Speed stats did perk up a bit for download (up to around 2.5mbps) and upload did go up a little bit (to 70bps), but I am not sure if this is just general traffic fluctuations online?

    Thanks again,

Thanks, but yep I have checked and there are no llu's. It has ofcom classification market 1 "This exchange has BT Wholesale as the sole provider of broadband services".
Am I right in thinking that any isp on this line is going to be as good/bad as the others (excepting customer services etc).

depends if you can find an affordable ISP who uses BT's network but doesn't do as much shaping / throttling.
