If it's not registered with Royal Mail then chances are it's not registered for other things:

    - council tax
    - tv license
    - water rate

My friend had this problem when she moved into a new place in Bristol. She tried to register for tv license and water but gave up as they wouldn't recognise her address.
  • I think that there is a law that states that every property must display a house number or a house name.

I have just checked and I am right.

The local council has a duty to make sure that all properties ar clearly marked.

    Read all about it here.

You could then tell the local council about it.

We actually asked our landlord to register the address with RM ....... Any ideas anyone might have for me to would be appreciated too - sorry to jump in on your thread!

You probably need to speak to the council's naming and numbering department, they register the address in conjunction with Royal Mail. It might be banded for Council Tax but not officially registered on lots of other databases e.g. Royal Mail's.

My parents have a similar issue where they live. The problem has been greatly reduced by putting up a weatherproof sign that says something like XYZ Ltd, 22a.... first door round corner.

Yes - I did speak with them, and they said it was the landlords responsibility to provide the info they needed such as OS map position etc - we asked him to do this while we were there on numerous occasions, and he didn't, and even if it were to be registered now, I can't see how they can complete your credit file retrospectively - which still leaves us with a gap in our credit files which was when we became debt free, then had manageable credit to try and kick start rebuilding our credit.

I have to say that I am so frustrated, as we thought that we had put an end to our financial problems by selling our house, paying our debts off and moving into rented - seems we may have been better staying in the house and getting an IVA at the time! Oh well, you live and you learn!
It just seems a bit harsh that we are going to have to wait at least 18 months ,so that we will have been at the current property for 3 years and we won't be asked for previous addresses!

I have 4 different lettered 155's mail coming into our house!

    There's the basement flat, 155a, 155b, 155c!

Complete nightmare, Just do as others say and write on the envelopes return to sender. They'll stop eventually.
