The whole 'majority rule' thing bugs me a bit here, as it does others. I said in my previous post in this thread that I would simply offer £5 per head, then it would be up to everyone to decide how to spend their £5. Obviously you know your own friends best, and it may be that they are all drinkers and more than happy to use it for the kitty. In that case you would be comfortable asking the question.

But if you knew that some of your friends were skint/teetotal/driving, putting it to the vote would be very embarrassing for those who just wanted the £5, and I'm sure they would be pressured by the rest to put it in the kitty and subsidise their drinking.

So... a neat compromise would be to ask who wants to put it in the kitty. Then let those people sacrifice their fivers for the kitty and give the others theirs back! I'm sure the 'kitty' voters would be thrilled with that! :rolleyes:

For the record, no, I am neither skint nor teetotal, just trying to see the opposing point of view. HTH.

I wouldn't keep quiet about it - it wouldn't be worth the hassle when it all came out anyway.

I'd give everyone the option of having their fiver back, or putting it towards a couple of bottles of wine - some people don't drink anyway.
