Thanks for everyone who's written to me about the gas bill. This is the first one we've had since we've been in the house, and after speaking to the consumer people, the problem was that the meter only shows 4 numbers, but each of those number needs to be multiplied by 10 or something (this is what OH says) so instead of us using 154 cubic feet, we've actually used 1540 cubic feet. I'm really confused, but basically it means that we've used a hell of a lot of gas this quarter, so the bill is right so he's paid it (£220). We think the main reason may be that we've been using the gas fire a lot cos the house has been freezing even when the heating has been on (probably because the roof isn't insulated and the windows need replacing).

The second freecycler who I emailed has just collected my items, so another thing out of the house. thumbs%20up.gif

OH is busy sanding the bathroom cabinet ready for painting and putting up.
I've got to go out and get the food shop before we have lunch at 2pm by which time, OH should have finished the cabinet. hyper.gif

Will do the car boot when I get back as it's nice and sunny at the moment. th_sunsmilie.gif

See you all in a bit,

    sexymouse xx

sexymouse, that sounds rather confusing, mine only shows 4 numbers but that is all I am using (the last 3 as it's a new meter) I've not seen one that you have to multiply by 10 before..... This is from my November-January quarter. This bill came to £81.32, we live in a 3 bedroom detatched house, very draughty unfortunately, hob is also gas. 1540 cubic feet units here I am sure would cost about £600 ?

http://www.gas-guide.org.uk/meters.html states you read the first 6 digits even if it's a 6 digit meter

    YOUR GAS USAGE
Meter: 002452** Reading last time 898 Reading this time 965 Units 67
Correction factor 1.02264 Calorific value 40.6
Total metric units used 193.9 cu mtrs
Units converted to kilowatt hours 2186.76 kWh

Oh this site may make it easier for some to convert to kwh http://energylinx.co.uk/gas_meter_conversion.html

scaredy cat hope your DH is on the mend soon

Triker do you need a new buddy for the stopping compulsive shopping/reducing grocery spends challenge? I remember the 'not buy anything unless I need it' which started before was good.
One day I might be more organised...........

Small announcement I have a fridge freezer, delivered this morning :j:j:j:j, second choice but I'm happy as it's here. Stayed with Boots electricals in the end as their customer service was excellent. So I'm a happy bunny.

Excellent news, and they must have had good customer service as you were fuming, so to deal with that is great... glad you're finally sorted though... ;)

Hubby is going to cook us breakfast now... :D:D (bit late, but I'm STARVING) and then we're attacking the garden - dogs have got onto the garden bit again and turfed up all the grass, dug holes, etc so we need to sort that out - also need to bath them both - they stink!!!! (it's like bathing a horse with toby though... he's so big and the hair      ! drives me mad...)
