AVIRA or AVAST which one is best

I've been using Avast for a while now, it was also one of the first to release a Vista64 antivirus.
There's also something reassuring about hearing the computer call from the other room 'Virus Database Updated' when you are watching TV.0 -
Why go for a second best AV?
Avira wins hands down on detection rates. FACT.
So why go with Avast? Email scanning I hear you cry.
As previously mentioned:Avast scans emails before they get on the computer, Avira scans EVERYTHING you open so will catch anything nasty in the email anyways.
Ergo ~ email scanning isnt as important as people try to make out (Unless your one of those people that just forwards emails without opening them first?)
So. Avira is the best. Well. Ignoring the nag screen. To make it less in-your-face do the following:
Disable the splash screen:
3a. Go to start -> run, type regedit,
3b. Navigate to [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run]
3c. In the right pane double-click avgnt and add /nosplash at the end of the path (ex. /min /nosplash)

Minimise the updates:
3d. Double click the red umbrella next to your clock
3e. Click Administration on the left
3f. Click Scheduler
3g. Right click Daily Update, select Edit
3h. Click Next, next, next, select invisible, click finish

I think people want a none nagging AV you dont have to edit the registry to get.
I've used both and prefer avast.0
