I'd say Avast if you really need email scanning, Avira AntiVir otherwise.0

e-mail scanning isnt as important as people try to make out (Unless your one of those people that just forwards emails without opening them first?)

haha
I'd have thought you of all people would be 'educating' em mate
...education is one thing, but mrs G-J has banned me from using electric shock therapy, so I'll stick with the e-mail scanner for now :rotfl:......Gettin' There, Wherever There is......

Avira edges Avast in terms of viruses detected. For the aesthetics of how it operates it comes down to personal choice

While both are good, I prefer Avira. I noticed when you switch on your laptop, before your avast update itself you could have been attcked by viruses. The time lag in-between booting and avast updating is a loophole. Avira on the other hand comes up with your start-up.No lags.
Moreover, avast dont like me using yahoo messenger on my vista. It keeps blocking it. My observations! You can't keep a good man down...0 -
Avira is easier to use, very marginally better at detecting viruses that are not yet "in the wild" (according to various reports that I read about 6-12 months ago), and uses less system RAM.
But in the end, there's not much in it... except personal preference...0 -
I don't think avast is leaving your computer unprotected whilst it updates, plus I doubt not having the very latest database is going to leave you unprotected either. Avast on my computer seems to wait a bit to update which I find speeds up booting.0
