Avira is the best0

They're both good, it's really just a personal choice. Try them both out and see which you prefer. For me Avira's annoying nag screens rules it out.poppy100

I use avast purely because it doesn't nag you every time it updates and it has a boot time scan which I find removes some things others have problems with. The updates are automatic and fast.0

Avira for me.:idea:0

you can disable the nag screen. google has plenty of ways to do it.
i find if you have XP Pro or Vista Business/Ultimate/Enterprise, the local security policy way works best0 -
I prefer AVG 8 Professional, Avast can be pretty RAM hungry, Used Avast PRO and It was okay.0

Avast for me. Have used it for years now and it has NEVER let me down.DEBT FREE AND LOVING LIFE0

Avast! for me on many computers....I like the e-mail scanner that Avira lacks
...G-J quickly ducks behind sandbags before getting shot for mentioning e-mail scanners......

I have a dodgy "i" key, so ignore spelling errors due to "i" issues, ...I blame Apple0 -
Another vote for avast here. I've been using it for years on two desk tops and a laptop with no problems.
I like the way it automatically updates although I do notice a slight lag in the computers / laptop during an update but it doesn't last for long.
Strangely enough if your speakers are on hearing "virus data base has been updated" is reassuring.
Licence if free for 30 days then you need to apply for a licence key (free again) which lasts for 14 months if I remember correctly and when it runs out you just apply for a new key. Easy enough to do.
It's downloadable from Here along with loads of other useful freeware.0 -
As Jack says. Avast has an email scanner, Avira doesnt.
Avast scans emails before they get on the computer, Avira scans EVERYTHING you open so will catch anything nasty in the email anyways.
Ergo ~ email scanning isnt as important as people try to make out (Unless your one of those people that just forwards emails without opening them first?):idea:0
