"Trident DVD" WARNING DON'T BUY FROM THEM

Options
I recently bought a DVD online from Trident DVD. They came up first in a search that I put in for the film Mama Mia. The website gives the impression that it's a British company with everything in £'s. The DVD took two weeks to come and arrived with a stamp from Thailand on it. It was advertised as UK compatible but had a sticker on the box saying it may not work in a DVD recorder, computer or games console.

It doesn't work in any of the DVD players I've tried it in, it's scratched and the hole in the middle doesn't even seem to be central. Trident have answered my emails but say it's my fault and told me to stop wasting their time emailing them!
DON'T BUY FROM THESE PEOPLE!

Just had a look at their website. The first line on the home page states "Trident DVD are a specialist retailer of discount Imported DVDs for UK buyers".
I used to suffer from lack of motivation.... now I just can't be arsed.

  • I have just bought series 4 of Lost from Trident DVD as it was only £25 as opposed to £30 elsewhere online. However, I am very disappointed in what I have received. The outer cardboard packaging looks like a copy of the original box, the DVDs were not packaged in plastic boxes, just cloth pouches, a card insert has come unglued from the inside of the packaging and usually there's a contents leaflet or info flyers and there were none of those. I have tried one of the DVDs in my DVD player and it does work, I just regret not spending the extra £5 from a supplier I trust. I have bought imported DVDs from a different supplier and the quality is as good as what you'd find in a UK shop. However, this one from Trident is not. Since I have opened the box I assume I cannot return the DVDs, although I would have to send them back to Thailand which I'm sure is expensive. I recommend choosing someone else to buy your DVDs from.
  • Trident is just another false front outfit like www.bestpricedbrands.co.uk -- it uses the co.uk web address to sucker in unwary punters who think they're dealing with a UK-based company.

Perhaps mindful of the kind of problems Jarvin Karnani's various websites have run into, Trident at least publishes this legal disclaimer:
Trident DVD operates a .co.uk domain for the benefit of UK customers paying in UK Sterling Pounds and makes no representation of being a UK based business or of having any connection with the UK at all.

Of course, the disclaimer is buried deep within the website.

If only prospective buyers of anything on the Internet would spend a few minutes actually reading a website before buying anything, none of these false-front scams would stay in business.

It only takes a moment to check on an "About us" section or "Terms & Conditions" and if there's anything obscure or suspiciously long-winded about the text, to walk away.

Not checking a retailer's co.uk website is the equivalent of walking into a shop where the lights are off, the place is in pitch darkness, and you can't see either the seller or the products.
  • I bought Greys Anatomy Season 4 the other week.Took ages to come then when i came round to watch it i was confronted by adverts within the episodes whilst i was watching so quite clearly these are copied dvds not imported copied!! i have watched several episodes so far and this has happened on all of them. They were either recorded off ABC or CWT. i contacted trident and explained i hadnt paid for copied dvds. They asked me to send the dvds back to thailand for a refund and said they had been let down by a new supplier ....hmmm. i said i didnt mind keeping the dvds however i wouldnt pay full wack for them.we agreed to a partial refund but as i had opened a paypal claim against them he said i needed to close this before i could get some money back.I explained that this was my backup and he has become rude and threatening. Please avoid this website.

  • Do not even give these people the satisfaction. Stay well away from there site, just a bogus rip off. I ordered lost series 4 from them and when it arrived it was very poor quality and you could still smell the ink on the disks blatent pirate copy. I have emailed these people back and they keep telling me there is nothing wrong with these boxsets how do they get away with this?

i also ordered Lost Season 4 from Trident as it was abit cheaper than everywhere else, and was very dissapointed to find that it was an obvious copy. However i did email trident that i wasnt happy with this and would like to return it and have a refund which they are happy to do as long as i pay postage back...luckily postage back to Thailand was roughly £7 which i will happily pay to get rid of the boxset!!! Just wish i had seen this forum before i bought it, they have a very deceiving website!
In the process of receiving the refund at the moment so i will let you know how it goes!...

The website is registered in Shanghai and the dvds are obviously fakes.
