hi you would be best off talking to your doctor to see about incapasity benefit or sickness benefit, and you could also try entitledto.com or co.uk

not to sure really, just take each day as it comes.

    depression is a awful illness.

take no notice of the ignorant poster (allthings considered2009) and do whats best for you and your child.

Incapacity Benefit has been replaced by the Employment and Support Allowance for new claims.
  • I am new to this so please bear with me.
My husband is currently in a Heart Hospital and has been for over 3 weeks. We receive Incapacitiy Benefit.
I am finding it so hard to afford the £30+ a time train fare.
Please could anyone tell me if there is a benefit out there that could help me?
Also please could someone advise me how I would legally make a complaint against a Hospital?
I am so sorry if I have done this all wrong, I admit to being a emotional wreck at the momment, I just need some advice. thankyou

I have been having problems at work and my boss is unable to resolve them, i have been off work for a few months with depression and was getting better, i have been back at work approx 6 weeks and am now starting to go back into a decline, i have been with my present employer for 10 years, I am 29, single, with a 3 year old daughter. If I handed my resignation in would i be entitled to Income Support? Strange thing to ask as i am employed by a local authority taking Housing Benefits info... Any advice would be appreciated!!!!

Yes you will be able to claim IS as a Lone Parent without any repurcussions about how you finished work. However Is there any way you can internally transfer departments? Any other options you can take rather then leave? I am regretting taking voluntary redundancy in August 2007 as I am finding it practically impossible to find work now. I am a single mum with an 8 year old child and the fact I 'gave up' a job with a salary of £19k makes me want to cry at times, especially when my payout was only £3k :o.

If I explain myself a bit more (so if you like a good nose read on, if you only want to read relevant benefits stuff then dont!), I was suffering from depression/anxiety/paranoia and my GP had advised me it was all to do with work and that the only way I would get better was to leave the job I was in (worked as an SDM, had cut my hours from full time to 16 as I couldn't bear to be around people - but loved the actual job - maybe should have locked myself in a broom cupboard with cases!) so when they wanted to lose 15 EO's I was there like a whippet, purposefully didnt complete my report so I would get a lower to help my case be accepted to leave (as there were over 30 applicants) So I left and became a little recluse. I was never happy about the diagnoses of work stress as my previous job in banking in london was a LOT more stressful, then thanks to the internet 9 months later I discovered that it was possibly not work that was making me ill, it was my Hormonal IUD (even though my GP had told me there is no way on earth the IUD could be the cause, then different female GP told me it could well be causing problems!) and after having it removed got rid of the problems almost instantly (for example came off prozac within 3 weeks after being on it for over 3 years! Was able to get dressed and go out without panic attacks and needing to scuttle home ater 30 minutes! It was actually yellow carded by the doctor as she was shocked at my recovery! and yes I do want to throttle my original GP!). However now I am finding it hard to look for work, struggling with ANY job that requires a medical declaration (as yeah lets employ the person that was off with alledged work stress!) and also as I have always worked (16 years) I seem to be struggling to be specifically qualified for most jobs as I tended to do a lot of specialised work, and also there are so many people going for the basic jobs etc... anyway thats another story and I am working on selling myself and starting an ECDL course on monday :j

Hi - I have just registered on here so I could say a big thank you on the information about yr depression/stress.
Its very strange but I have been off work nearly a year now with very similar symptoms to what you have. I have had an IUD fitted in August and to be honest I have got worse and have been at my wits end. Ive just bee put on HRT patches and also my new doctor took me off Prozac (40mg) and put me on Citalophrin only 20 mg. I have started to feel a little better - I think I may now try having the IUD taken out aswell. I understand about the same problems about returning to work. Who's goin to employ a person who's been on long term stress/depression sickness. I have been intouch with Employment Opportunities or thru your local job centre who have contacts that are sympathetic to people in our position.

Thanks again for your information its been very useful and interesting. Let me know what you think

    All the best

Just want to supply a little ray of hope really!

Ive suffered from mental health issues, OCD, depression, anxiety attacks on and off since i was 16. Gave up work 3 ish years ago, as things got so bad.

Recently i decided i wanted to try to get back to work, i applied for lots of jobs, but barely heard a thing. Was beginning to think the same "whose going to employ someone whose been off work this long etc" but i found a job and started last tuesday! My employers know all about my health issues, (i actually had to tell them on my application) but still gave me a chance.

For anyone in this situation, dont give up, its hard for everyone to find work at the moment, but im sure your get there in the end.

loulou that's great news. How wonderful to have found such understanding employers. I hope you really enjoy the job & that you will have a long & happy life working for these people.

What a refreshing change to hear of employers who don't pull down the barriers once there's even a sniff of a mental health problem from an applicant.
The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.

I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.
