Entitlement to Income Support

I have been having problems at work and my boss is unable to resolve them, i have been off work for a few months with depression and was getting better, i have been back at work approx 6 weeks and am now starting to go back into a decline, i have been with my present employer for 10 years, I am 29, single, with a 3 year old daughter. If I handed my resignation in would i be entitled to Income Support? Strange thing to ask as i am employed by a local authority taking Housing Benefits info... Any advice would be appreciated!!!!

You'll get a much better response on the benefits board.
  • I'm sorry to hear about your problems with your work/boss. However, it appears that you are employed in the public sector. IMHO you would be crazy to resign because you would lose so many benefits!

As a single parent, you would be entitled to Income Support regardless of why you leave work (It's not the same for 'Jobseekers', but you would qualify under a different category)

As to your motivation and reasons for quitting, I understand you may feel the situation warrants it but if there is a problem at work you should try to resolve those (if only in the attempt) since that sounds like the primary issue.

as to 'allthingsconsidered2009'; that's about the most inappropriate title you've given yourself - you didn't consider anything in the OP's question

  • hi you would be best off talking to your doctor to see about incapasity benefit or sickness benefit, and you could also try entitledto.com or co.uk

not to sure really, just take each day as it comes.

    depression is a awful illness.

take no notice of the ignorant poster (allthings considered2009) and do whats best for you and your child.

I think that if you make yourself intentially jobless then you will not be entitled to anything for 6 months. I may be wrong though.

This does not apply to someone claiming Income Support as a single parent.
