    Your right

    not recently

    Used to get glowing reviews

Think it might be to do with the prefetching they've added. While your looking at a page, it's silently download all the links on that page to your cache on the off chance you might click one and then it can display it faster.

A HUGE waste of everyone's time, resources, and internet bandwidth if you ask me.

I think Fasterfox is okay but you should go through the settings and not just take it's defaults.

Among other things, you're putting lots of strain on site servers if you have it up on turbo charged
  • So firetune the better option?

I think they both essentially do the exact same thing. Just up to your personal preference.

Fasterfox gives you more control because you can very quickly switch between settings at a click of the button.

I just wouldn't have it Turbocharged and Prefetching (Can't remember if it comes like that by default)

Firetune means your not cluttering up your profile with yet another extension, but it means that to change a setting you have to close Firefox and then open Firetune
  • I'm pretty thick with computers but i do use firefox! All i need to know is if it will speed up it loading when you click on it to start it up?

That's one of the big problems with Firefox and there's very little you can do.

Firetune offers to put a shortcut on your desk that makes Firefox starts faster. But I never noticed any difference.

But you can do that yourself without Firetune.
Just edit the Firfox shortcut by adding /prefetch:1 (only works in XP)

Right-click the Firefox shortcut and in the target field,
    change "C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe"
    to "C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe" /prefetch:1

If you right-click Windows Media Player shortcut, you'll find that it does that automatically by default.
