brand new laptop with damage!!

hi, hope this is the right place.

just unpacked brand new laptop from comet, only to find a deep scratch on the lid:mad:

will be getting in touch with them tomorrow but i think there is very little if any stock left, had to do 90 mile round trip to pick this one up today.

what can i expect them to say when i call? will they only want to replace/refund? will they expect me to wait for availability? will they offer discount? to what value? what do you think is a fair discount for 10mm long deep scratch on the front edge of the laptop lid? paid £429

thanks in advance for your advice

And the first thing you are going to say is

"this laptop I bought which I could have scratched myself I want a discount on"

I'd question why anyone would buy a laptop and not check it instore in the first place.

OP is probably thinking ahead. If stock is limited then he/she might be offered a discount - that isn't exactly unheard of after all. So obviously he/she is asking what we think is a fair amount.

Not rocket science but it seems beyond some of you lot (or you pretend it is which is sadder)

Bockster - just reply to folk with genuine questions if you want to save yourself some grief. A lot on here have hidden agendas.

I'd be happy if they knocked the £29 off. Then I'd put a pic or a sticker on it if the laptop was to be carried about. If just for home use I wouldn't bother at all.

TBH though I'd be more worried about WHY it had a scratch! Who treated it roughly? Is it a returned laptop or reconditioned or something?

bit of a round trip today to drop off the scratched one and collect a new one from another store, they repaid me £30 for travel costs.
