Visa debit cards do not have the same legal protection in law as credit cards do.

They do however have something called Visa Debit Chargeback which is similar in some respects but run by Visa.

The person I spoke to wasn't specific so thanks for the links.

As for the question about my cheque guarantee limit, I didn't ask as the time. All the CSR said at the time was the limit would be carried over to my new card.

Anyone know if they will now charge a cash advance fee if getting foreign currency at somewhere like Travelex? I know Maestro never incurred a charge. TIA.

Good question, I have been trying to find the answer to that one for ages.

Fortunately I still have my old Maestro card at the moment.
  • So- acceptance wise is it different to the other Visa debit cards?
My mum has some kind of visa debit card and there are a lot of places that won't take it.
    Sorry for being thick :o
This is my opinion. There are many others like it but this is mine

Why would they? It's not a credit card.

I used my Halifax Visa debit card to buy foreign currency the other day. It appears on my statement as Debit Card Cash Advance, but there was no fee attached to it.

Why would they? Because they can. Some banks do charge. E.g. A&L, Smile and Lloyds. Some banks don't pass this on.
