NEW VISA CARD - ACTIVATING CARD:
If you've just received your new Visa Debit card, here are some quick and easy ways to activate it.
We've introduced an activation process to keep your HSBC Visa Debit card secure until you receive it. Before you can use your card, you'll need to sign the back of the card and activate it in one of the following ways:
By Personal Internet Banking
Log-on to Internet Banking, click on 'Activate card' and follow the instructions. You'll need your new card details to do this.
At a cash machine
If you are continuing to use your PIN from a previous HSBC debit card (you will have been informed if it is changing), your new card can be activated automatically by using it at a cash machine. Just make a transaction such as a cash withdrawal, balance enquiry, charity donation, mobile top-up, credit card bill payment or money transfer. Please note: You will not receive an on-screen confirmation.
If this is your first debit card from HSBC, you will be unable to activate in this way.
By phone
You can activate by calling 0800 783 5263 (international +44 12 26 26 1010) or by textphone 1800 1084 5712 5563. Remember to have your new card with you.
If you are a joint account holder and have more than one card on the account, you'll need to activate each card individually.
Register for Verified by Visa
Your card now includes Verified by Visa for safe shopping online. If you had a MasterCard SecureCode password (for your Maestro card), it will no longer apply and you will need to re-register your new Visa Debit card with Verified by Visa .
