NEW VISA CARD - OVERVIEW:
Your Visa Debit card is globally accepted, convenient and secure

Why Visa?
  • Visa is the most widely accepted debit card in the world.
  • You can make purchases and cash withdrawals directly from your bank account wherever you see the Visa logo.
  • Your card provides you with excellent security.
    - Verified by Visa is available when you make online purchases.
What hasn't changed?

Although we've made changes to your HSBC debit card, you won't lose any of the features you've had before.
  • You can use your new card in exactly the same way that you used your previous debit card.
  • Your PIN stays the same (unless advised otherwise).
  • Your bank account and overdraft (where applicable) are unaffected.
  • If you have CardGuard, there is no need to re-register. (CardGuard is a one-stop solution which insures all your cards against misuse if they are lost or stolen, and ensures replacements are ordered for you via one free telephone call from anywhere in the world).

NEW VISA CARD - WHAT'S CHANGED:

What's changed on your new Visa Debit card

As well as your new debit card having the Visa logo, you'll notice that the look of your card has changed too.

Changes at a glance
  • The Visa logo has replaced the Maestro or Solo logo.
  • Fresh new design.
  • Your unique card number is now 16 digits long.
  • Each card – even those on joint accounts – has a new unique card number.
  • Your sort code and account number now appear more clearly on your card (this does not affect the safety of your card).
  • The 'valid from' and 'expires end' dates are now shown on your card and you will need these to make purchases online or over the phone.
  • There is no longer an issue number on your card.
  • Some customers will see a reduction in or removal of their cheque guarantee limit.
For added security, you will need to activate your card. Find out more on the Activating Your Card page, or refer to our Guide to Services document.

NEW VISA CARD - ACTIVATING CARD:

If you've just received your new Visa Debit card, here are some quick and easy ways to activate it.

We've introduced an activation process to keep your HSBC Visa Debit card secure until you receive it. Before you can use your card, you'll need to sign the back of the card and activate it in one of the following ways:

By Personal Internet Banking
Log-on to Internet Banking, click on 'Activate card' and follow the instructions. You'll need your new card details to do this.

At a cash machine
If you are continuing to use your PIN from a previous HSBC debit card (you will have been informed if it is changing), your new card can be activated automatically by using it at a cash machine. Just make a transaction such as a cash withdrawal, balance enquiry, charity donation, mobile top-up, credit card bill payment or money transfer. Please note: You will not receive an on-screen confirmation.
If this is your first debit card from HSBC, you will be unable to activate in this way.

By phone
You can activate by calling 0800 783 5263 (international +44 12 26 26 1010) or by textphone 1800 1084 5712 5563. Remember to have your new card with you.

If you are a joint account holder and have more than one card on the account, you'll need to activate each card individually.

Register for Verified by Visa
Your card now includes Verified by Visa for safe shopping online. If you had a MasterCard SecureCode password (for your Maestro card), it will no longer apply and you will need to re-register your new Visa Debit card with Verified by Visa .

It must be your PC or browser/compatibility cos the image shows on firefox and explorer - I just checked on different laptop than I loaded data from and images show just fine....

However, main thing is that you seen the card - I have it, it aint that nice to be honest but it is shiny like a platinum visa card....... I would have preferred old style card with the c/g facility myself
