No no, it IS a sales pitch. However the customer should decide if the products would save them or not
to be fair some customers aren't that savvy... like me, when I had proceeds of house sale in my easycash account no bugga at hbos told me the interest rate was 0% - haha
It didnt stay there long like but to be honest if someone had offered me a sales pitch i'd probably have taken it cos it stayed in an account for over 3yrs all in all and I only made about £100 (£85k savings)
All i'm trying to say is some people do like or even need a sales pitch, but then any good cso would tell someone if they noticed large cash in a current account wouldn't they - you'd think! Some say he is a racist, others say he is a liar but the truth will always prevail...

Opened the account around 28th August. I told them I wanted a darn credit card but they said no point applying as computer would have automatically offered it were I eligible. Then around 10th Nov I thought eff this I want a credit card. So I applied. I also needed a small unsecured loan at that time. So on 10th Nov i applied for a second current account, a small unsecured loan (£2.5k) an a credit card. The 2nd current acc was opened with no fuss at all and came with an OD limit of I think £500. The CC application got 'referred' to underwriting. The loan applic was also referred. First thing the next morning (like 8.30 am lol) my phones are ringing off the hook. It's Underwriting at HSBC. They asked me a few questions about my income. Then they went away for about 90 seconds and said "your loan is approved." I then said, "oh actually I put in a credit card application yesterday too". The Underwriter said "Oh that was already approved earlier this morning. Your limit is £3000 and your APR is 16.9"
A couple of weeks ago I thought I fancied a higher limit on the credit card. I rang them up and asked them what they could offer me. They told me they'd have to do a full credit search. the woman went away and did the search and came back and said we can give you an extra £1000 on your credit limit.
Hiya
Thanks for this - it really helps. My credit file is knackered so I doubt i'd get offered anything like you got lol.
However, I guess i'll have to wait a few months before applying for a credit card then? Would you suggest going in branch or doing online? I applied on 16th January actually (Plus account opened 20th Dec) and got declined. spoke to underwriting at time of decline and argued they could take my ruddy cheque book away and give me the credit on the mastercard instead - she politely said sod off hahaha
I'll just wait then!
Is your credit file in order though? I am assuming yours isnt as bad as mine, but surprised they had to go to underwriting for credit card and loan - maybe cos you applied within 6mths?Some say he is a racist, others say he is a liar but the truth will always prevail...

I didnt think you could apply online for a second account, you can't now anyway cos I had to speak to my branch. It only lets me upgrade to plus or open a joint account - branch told me this was cos they wanted people to have just one account or summat! Some say he is a racist, others say he is a liar but the truth will always prevail...

The impression I get STRONGLY is that the Behaviour Score goes a long way to getting approvals. While I have no adverse on my credit files, my file is pretty "thin". I think a huge percentage of why I keep getting aprpoved is my behaviour score at HSBC.
I've got Standing Orders going into Savings Accounts, generally keep around £5k savings with them, got insurance with them, got the business account with them, now also got the loan and credit card with them....
I have my Plus Account (£200 o/d), my Advance Account (£500 o/d) and an online bonus saver and flexible saver both with £50 per week going in via standing order from my Plus account. Hoping this would help me get a better score - who knows?
So you reckon wait til April time before applying? I guess I could be cheeky and email the woman at my branch and ask what my score is haha! It may be easier speaking to her cos she may 'push it through' or something if I applied in branch. Small village and she knows me when I ring etc and have direct branch number and personal email for her. i.e. cos its smaller village everyone knows everyeone kinda stuff.... thats probably why they seem so good to me cos i'm getting a free Premier service hahaSome say he is a racist, others say he is a liar but the truth will always prevail...
