A Tim Tam is a delicious chocolate biscuit. They're mouth wateringly good
I'm off to pack a lunchbox for work. No idea why people would need to come to a chemist on a Sunday, but I guess I'm about to find out :rotfl:Away with the speed of a thousand turtles!0 -

I have another silly question, when I start putting money aside monthly for things that are yearly [ie birthdays, insurance etc] where do I physically put that money? If I leave it in my regular account it will get spent. I have a savings account [with not much in there] but if I withdraw from it I lose my interest for the month.
I too hate marmite.
Quite a lot of us having pots/jars that we save change etc in. Could you do that for your birthday etc money?
My best friend is from Aussie(Perth I think), they are going back in a couple of years and have asked us to think about going with them. Her hubby can give my hubby work ( he is going to be a plumber) and I teach. We are seriously considering it. Any comments would be appreciated.

You could always open a second savings account for things that are for using later in the year-if you end up with surplus just move it to the "proper" savings later.I Would Rather Climb A Mountain Than Crawl Into A Hole

Good luck electric mayhem.0 -
G'day, fellow (imported) Aussie here emigrated last year. Thanks so much for letting us into your lovely country - we just love it here!
I am up in the Top End, nice and warm up here at the moment!
Just wanted to ask you if you had thought about doing a cash back site, I do Rewards Central and My Opinions, I 'm using the money to save up towrds christmas, you can get Coles/Woolworths or Myers gift cards when you get enough points, might be worth a look.
You sound in a great position, get a coin jar, you will be surprised how quickly this mounts up, make sure you write down everything you spend.
I understand about the internet, it is much more expensive over here than in the UK, Telstra has a bit of a monopoly.
yuk to Vegemite, I have marmite imported for me every time a family member visits but yum to Tim Tams.

I would love to do cashback site things, I tried googling for some Australian ones, but I must be a bad googler And Darwin - you must be melting! I thought it was bad down here in NSW
I'm actually feeling more motivated today about this debt business.
I started the payment-a-day challenge, and I'm hoping to siphon off the $5ish we'd normally be spending on bought lunch onto a credit card. Over the course of a month that's $150 extra onto a credit card!
I'm going to find something to be used as a pennies jar. I have lots of loose change floating around, and if I drop it into the jar at the end of each day hopefully it will add up.
I will look into the cashback thing, thanks llamahead!
I will work up the courage to start a spending diary :undecided
Also, I went over to the old style board, you CAN freeze rice and pasta, as long as you freeze it the day you cook it, and you put a few drops of water in when you reheat! Batch cooking here I come!Away with the speed of a thousand turtles!0 -

...though perhaps we'd been doing ourselves a mischief over the last 30 years we've been "recycling" our pasta and curry/rice meals via the freezer. Sue is dead cagey anyway so we have to box 'em and stick them in the freezer straight away or Sue will bin them.
...and a "reheat" curry always seems to be a bit more spicey too. Lovely!

Hey llamahead, I just went to sign up for these to have a look around, and when you sign up you can out the person who referred you and they get points. Do you want to PM your username or email for those places and I'll put you down? :beer:Away with the speed of a thousand turtles!0 -

Hi Elsas mamma,
I may be slightly biased, but I reckon if it feels right for you guys, do it! Perth particularly is just beautiful. It's a lovely, clean city. Some really nice sights around the city, and down south. I grew up in Perth and my family still live there. I'd move back to Perth in a heartbeat. One thing you need to be aware of if you do move is the stinking hot summers! I'm talking 43+ degrees, and oh the humidity! :eek:Away with the speed of a thousand turtles!0
