Oh! Also, our PM has come up with a controversial "economic stimulus" package whereby all tax paying workers will get $900 each in early April. It's meant for us to buy frivolous things, therefore stimulating the economy a little, but I'm thinking 2x $900 will take a nice chunk off one credit card. I feel bad for using the money for the complete opposite of how it's intended... but once it's in my bank account it's my money, and I can do what I want with it. And I want to be debt free.
And now I'm engrossed in a 100+ page thread of hypno's diary. And I just got a new book to read tooAway with the speed of a thousand turtles!0 -

My better half still cannot make a curry (or pasta) for two - still cooks for the kids.
I don't mind cos I love curry! If there is a reason that I cannot eat the extra the next day, it goes into a plastic box (from the chinese takeaway) and goes in the freezer. Ditto the rice.
Same with pasta meals, so when I have a curry, Sue has the pasta. Brill!

Reeeeally stupid question incoming....
Can you freeze rice and pasta? I mean the actual rice and pasta, not just the sauces. If so, I think you're onto a winner! :jAway with the speed of a thousand turtles!0 -

I only freeze the sauce cos of some distant memory of old cooked rice been toxic or somesuch. I'd check on the OS forum -the Old Schoolers know *everything* about such questionsI Would Rather Climb A Mountain Than Crawl Into A Hole

Well I know over here that you can buy frozen ready meals that contain pasta and rice (not that I bother with them much). I have frozen leftover pasta and rice before because I always make double when I have a spag bol or whatever and it gets frozen.
When I was in Oz (fab hol in March 03) I picked up a second hand book called Hard Times (I have it somewhere so I will look it out for the authors) which is basically about how to survive in times of depression by making stuff and growing your own.
If you look on the Moneysaving Oldstyle Board also on this forum - they have wonderful tips on how to meal plan etc.
A chicken will make a roast, sandwiches, a frozen dinner (like a tv dinner but nicer as it doesnt have the additives) and the carcass get cooked with water, herbs and veg and the bones are strained off and I use it as a basis for soup.
I am not a marmite or vegemite person - but I adore TimTams (I bite the ends off, dip them in hot chocolate and suck). Over here you either like marmite or you don't - I fall into the marmite hating group:rotfl:0 -
I don't know how anyone can like Vegemite or Marmite
I have another silly question, when I start putting money aside monthly for things that are yearly [ie birthdays, insurance etc] where do I physically put that money? If I leave it in my regular account it will get spent. I have a savings account [with not much in there] but if I withdraw from it I lose my interest for the month. :think:Away with the speed of a thousand turtles!0 -
Its better off in the savings account (even if you do lose the interest for the month) isn't it....or can you give 30 days notice and not lose interest. Assuming its for birthdays, christmas and annual stuff then you will be able to give the notice..
Ascii code for £ sign is alt0163 (well it is on my keyboard) but it doesn't seem to work in an MSE post...Works in word..
