Options
hi all experts!
my Zafira has finally carked it and i'm not coping without wheels.
we needed a bigger MPV anyway so choices are
Y reg previa 76000 on clock £5000
03 sedona 61000 on clock £4500
04 galaxy 56000 on clock £4500
all are diesel

I've looked for review on each on net and previa has more postive than neg reviews but I know nothing about cars and would like an opinion please.

Galaxy - out of those, which spec is it??

Bigger than Zafira remember, if that is good or bad point, to consider.

The Kia will be a bit rough around the edges & POSSIBLY bought 'cos it was cheap & not so well maintained.
    Previa - seems a bit dear & it's older.

Have you thought of Mazda Premacy, if you can find one??

It's the secret 'bargain' mini MPV & most owners like them!!

  • Can only comment on the Galaxy, we had 2 before we bought our Zafira. It is a big car, but doesn't feel big when driving or parking it. Ours (one was a 1.9 130bhp, the other a 150bhp) averaged about 45 to the gallon for the 130bhp and 42 to the gallon for the 150 bhp.

The bigggest thing you'll notice is that if you want to take the seats out, they are bulky and not light - finding somewhere to store them is a pain. The Zafira set up is much better.

Neither of our cars had any major problems whilst we had them and were relatively cheap to service. Both our cars were Ghia spec, so had parking sensors - useful when getting into tight spaces. They are also mostly VW technology, we enjoyed ours - would certainly have another one without any hesitation.
  • I have a Mazda Premacy on my forecourt. It's been there since erm, august cos no one knows what it is!!! Not exactly a mainstream car!

the Honda Stream is quite good too!!

    See what I mean!!

Mazda didn't do a good enough job to tell all about it!!

Underneath it's a Mazda 626, platform, so has all the (pretty good) Mazda reputation of old.

Harvey is only 'stuck' with it, 'cos people don't know what it is.

Or he's being greedy on the screen £$£$

Or it's poor spec petrol & everyone thinks they 'need' a diesel!!

  • ok i'll do the kia . Basic spec built like a tank massive in side with the seats out you can fit a large 3 seater seatte . Not the best on fuel though ,due to the engine 2.9 turbo .The cam belt should be done at 60k . which is expensive to do . Main dealers vary in price aprox £400-500 for the belt and kit .

In short had mine 2 years and love it
  • I've looked at most peoplecarriers recently but decided on a minibus instead. The problem with peoplecarriers is the lack of space. I'd already noticed the zafira was lacking but further checks on others showed that I can either have 7 seats and no boot or 5 seats and a boot.
Search the forum for Ford TDCI faults. Theres a couple of costly faults that can happen on them (hopefully more modern ones will have them ironed out but better to see for yourself). Personally it wouldnt put me off them though (i've 2 tdci's already).

Had quite a few customers try this idea.

Main problem, if you find one that you like, is getting sensible insurers, to provide cover.

most think that it'll be used on the side as an extra income, as taxi, school runs, lads night out, etc etc. Rather than as personal transport.

& then when you start altering the seat layout - most people don't want 10-12 seats, they could say you've adapted it - despite most people carriers having removeable seats, minibusses are expeted to be permanent features. If you don't refit with correct bolts, or as thew should be a prang, some Mr Jobsworth might start being to clever & say you're not covered!!

& you've always the issue of seatbelt tensioners & the dangers these pose, when moving permanent seats around.

Worth thinking about, before getting on a bus!!

Definately (it was probably a thread i'd started lol.)
Researching just now to see if it's viable to start a business or just buy a cheaper minibus for SDP.
Originally thought about the TDCI Tourneo, more drawn to the Trafic (or one of the others, same minibus, different badge).

What about the Citroen C8/Fiat Ulysse/Peugeot 807? Don't go for the auto as the box is on borrowed time after 75K miles
