  • Hey guys,

thanks for all the comments on the Petition,

We have had a lot of media attention from the petition, and hope it will go public soon!
Our university guild paper will be informing students of the petition, and hopefully other news groups such as BBC and ect will want to take up the story! Will update you on how that goes!

Basically the petition is about giving students the choice of a 41 week contract like they use to do! A company which aims its products at students should suit the product around them and not try to exploit them! I think it was a really good idea last year to have both the option of 41 and 51 week contracts! however the majority of students do not actually need this! what about final year students who leave even earlier than 1st, 2nd years? Why should students have to pay extra when the choice was there before? and why only make the change in 9 of the cities?

Look on Unite's website, Unite say rent is "Easy on the pocket" this is kinda true because you dont even see any money go in to your pockets!

  • Unite are rubbish.....I moved out at the start of the year due to family problems, found someone else for my room who moved in. Unite delayed signing contracts then decided at 6pm on a Friday evening to evict her for no reason!!! Now they are trying to get a whole years rent out of me (well actually out of my recently widowed mum!!).

Anyone out there who are considering unite based on the gorgeous show flat......DON'T!!!! Our flat was a state compared to the showflat and we didn't have an oven for 6 weeks despite me popping into the office everyday!!!!

They made the halls seem like a right palace. I'll paste a bit of a response I just gave to someone else.

But they did fail to show the damages all over the halls.... cielings wrecked, door locks broken, lifts not working, windows smashed, etc etc. Agreed, it is a nice place, when all work has been done to it... but that's the way student halls are becoming these days - there's no such thing as cheap trampy halls anymore. I don't even think there will be any new halls of residence without en-suite being built in the future.

you want to be careful there - if you say the place is damaged, everyone will only blame the residents!!! ;)

I take your point about the inflated prices but why you guys pay for one crummy room I have no idea. The hall at leeds for example - for £90 week / £300 a month you could get half a terrace house in the same area for 12 months never mind 41 weeks.

I have a 4 bed house to myself for less than you guys pay for one room! I will sign the pertition though - right to choice and all that.
