thanks for all the replies in one way saturday is a good day i wanted to go with my wife because she wasnt to keen all the staff looking at her like she is a thief, but as i told her we have done nothing wrong and its 179.00. I hope it doesnt turn out to be complete hassle. Although someone mentioned that did argos checked the box before handing it to my wife at the checkout, but they didnt she paid and collected as you do with other items, perhaps they should adopt that procedure in future, I'll see how saturday goes and if not I may write to the headoffice and suggest it.Listen to what people say, but watch what people what people do!!0

Ask for the direct dial number for the area manager. If there's no-one in store to deal with your complaint, go up a level. One half of the world cannot understand the pleasures of the other0

Yeah do that, there should always be someone within the store that can deal with something like this!! Have you tried customer services?Weight Loss - 102lb0

there should ALWAYS be someone in store who would deal with the query. Who ever answered the phone was WRONG. In my case i would check the receipt, see if it was marked with "box opened" or "box still sealed" etc then make judgement. If no-one had opened the box then no-way of knowing the nano was inside, so they should replace it! Thats what i would i do if i was still team leader. God damn hours cuts:P0 -

At least Im not the only one who thinks there should always be someone to deal with it!
If I were the OP when this gets sorted I would kick up a right hoo hah! And expect something extra for all the inconvenience caused!!Weight Loss - 102lb0 -
I've had the exact same problem 2-3 years ago though for the life of me I can't remember what the item was now. Anyway, I didn't have any problem with getting it replaced so it might not be as uncommon as you think - I think their assumption when I returned it was light-fingered staff rather than light-fingered customers, so I think you'll be ok.
If you can't get back to the store for some time, I think it's always a good idea to ring the store (or these days the generic central customer service line) to let them know the situation. Can only go in your favour if they do try to question your honesty.

i would have thought it would have looked better to return to the store as soon as possible.........smile --- it makes people wonder what you are up to....

I would take it back today. You can return it under the sale of goods act and ask for a refund/replacement as you are rejecting the goods (namely because what you got wasn't what they advertised). If they refuse, complain to Trading standards and send an letter to Argos head office. There are templates on the Trading standard website. If you bought on using a credit card you can also claim the money back through them instead.
I hope it works out for you. I'm currently trying to get Argos to sort out my faulty iPod at the moment...0 -
Thanks for all the replies, I'm going down to argos first thing tomorrow so I can post back after that, i feel more confident after some of posts on here, i was worried we were going to be accused and my wife really didnt want to go because she was worried she was going to stared at. to be honest i wanted to do it face to face rather than on the telephone, i may still write to head office after it has been resolved and suggest that maybe they should check each item in front of the customer before handing it over, I suspect that they probably build this kind of thing into their prices and will say that due to cost and time it would be un workable.Listen to what people say, but watch what people what people do!!0

just to update everyone, they replaced it no probs this morning the manager couldnt even be bothered to come downstairs, apparently they should have cellophane wrapped around them but ours never did, so cut a long story short they replaced it and i made sure i checked before leaving the store.Listen to what people say, but watch what people what people do!!0
