I don't know the first thing about areas, but the cheapest house labelled as 7 bedrooms using the search criteria of London is £315kwhathavewedone wrote: »No way would you get a 7 bedroom Victorian house in London for 600k - unless it was completely derelict or in an awful area which also had bad transport links.

Then you look at its sales history - and see what got us into this mess:

I don't know the area but looking at some of the areas near it then it may not be great.
Interestingly a train to Cannon Street would take 32 minutes according to TFL. You would still need to walk to the station and from the station to work. This is an almost identical journey that my OH makes. The season ticket would be just under £1,500 my OH ticket is £3k. On a good note this 7 bedroom house is cheaper than ours so we'd have cash in the bank. Unfortunately it only has a 35ft garden and I'd probably collapse with all those stairs so I'll stay where I am!
ETA: I take it back. I just looked on upmystreet.co.uk and it shows it as being an OK area.

Funny thing is that I once lived 5 minutes from work and didn't like it. I felt that if anything went wrong in the office at any time i.e like servers needed rebooting - I would be phoned up and asked to do it. So since then I've always made sure I'm 30 minutes away.
We get 3.5 hours overtime for ATM call outs so I'm delighted to get them!0 -
People die through workplace injuries every day, but when you go to work and this happens its terrible.
You can keep London, I live in Birmingham and its not the greatest city, but at least we dont get people getting stabbed whilst they are trying to do their jobs.

A woman was stabbed to death at the clothing store where she worked, police said.
The woman, in her 40s, was attacked at the rear of a branch of Peacocks in Mitcham, south London, at 1.20pm on Friday.
Scotland Yard said they know the woman's identity and are trying to trace her next of kin. An incident room has been opened under Det Ch Insp Mick Duthie and a post mortem was due to be carried out.
How do you explain to the womens family that she went to work and got stabbed whilst there trying to earn a living for thoer familys.

I knew someone would dig a cheap 7 bedroom house out!
Just been and asked my oh (south east Londoner) what Abbey Wood is like as an area. He replied that it's a dog hole. I said but it's near Greenwich isn't it? He said hmmm, nearer places like Woolwich and Plumstead actually. Just the areas I had in mind when I said lousy areas of London with poor transport links...
Should add that oh was born and bred in a council house in Walworth - a pretty rough place between Camberwell and Elephant and Castle. And he thinks Abbey Wood is worse, much, much worse0 -

It will be her family explaining to the police - as it was her husband who stabbed her0 -
confused31 wrote: »not really if there are over 43000 muggings a year in london, the odds of someone who works in london has got a good chance of becoming a victim of a mugging.
Well, I guess it depends on what you define as a 'good chance'. There are around 7.5 million people living in London so with your stats you have around a 1 in 175 chance of being mugged each year. I'd hazard a guess that at least half of the muggings are in dodgy areas or subjected to people putting wealth on display - you're in control of both of these factors, so stay a bit street safe and I'm sure the odds go much longer.
Sounds like you're a bit paranoid to me. Compare London to LA, Rio, Barcelona, Prague or many other cities and it is incredibly safe.0 -

Woolwich has fantastic transport links - Overground rail, DLR and the Thames Clipper (£100/month to go anywhere on the river between Woolwich and Waterloo!
) not to mention numerous 24 hr buses. There will be a Crossrail stop there as well as at Abbey Wood within the next 10 yrs. 0 -
Sorry to sound like I'm bragging - but I pay £275pcm rent for a flat and I have a commute that takes me 15 minutes to walk.
But the place I live is the opposite to London - prices in Hull are usually less than the surrounding commuter towns.
My mate works in London a lot and he says he would move there because he likes using public transport to get to work and being able to go out and socialise straight after work. He sees is it as more flexible because you don't need a car, but I would start to feel trapped in the city.0 -
Well Cornball you should buy that house then, it's bound to be worth double in 10 years time.
Might need to put some bars up on those windows in the meantime though.0
