Halifax removed overdraft with no notice

Every overdraft probably has a renewal date now: check when it is, it should be on your statement and contact your bank well in advance re what their intentions are re your overdraft. If its not on your statement, call them and ask when it is due for renewal or review. Try to get them to agree in writing that they will be extending it. If they cannot renew, at least you have time to try to come up with an alternative arrangement.
I am the OP of this thread: update: Had to pay the damn thing off rather than risk getting any more marks on my credit file. Collections dept were somewhat aggressive but I knew I had ten days that they had agreed so they couldnt do anything. I paid it off yesterday when I got paid and have sold some stuff so that I can survive the month.
I made an official complaint re their complete lack of customer service and their agressive tone/ nature: guess what? I heard nothing about the complaint until I called ten day later (they are meant to respond initially within five days): they had done nothing about my complaint. I added to the complaint with a complaint about the complaint.
I am going to approach the financial ombudsman re thiri attitude. I am their customer after all, and their customer service is appaling.
Banks are not the same organisations they were a year ago. They have no capital, desperately need it to survive and will do anything to get their money back. Assume the worst re your overdraft and be proactive re addrsssing it well before it is due, then any continuation of it past its renewal date is a bonus.
Just for the record, you also have to pay their unfair charges of £28, and any bounced DDs etc0 -
Regarding the initial topic. This also happened to me on what seems to be the same date.
I had an arranged overdraft of £2750 which was, for some reason reduced to £0 (just when I needed it most!) to top this of 2x DD failed to come out leaving me with £70 fees to pay.
Firstly I went to my local branch and asked why (they couldn't give me a reason). So I asked to speak to the Branch manager who after a long wait, actually was brilliant. He could not switch my overdraft back on but wrote a complaint letter for me which was sent out the same day.
He advised me then to speak with the collection department as they would be contacting me for payment what was now an unauthorised overdraft.
I spoke with them on the phone and they said they would not bother me again until I paid in enough to cover my overdraft.
They then put me through to customer relations who wrote of both fees for unpaid DDs.
This morning I got a letter (not apology!) in my online account stating they have returned my overdraft to £2750.
While I do not agree with them reducing my overdraft to £0 ( I really did not get a letter!!) the service I got was greatly appreciated.
This may have been different story had I not had enough savings in other accounts to cover my overdraft.
So not all of these horror stories have bad endings!0 -
Halifax customers that had their overdraft taken away recently might want to check their accounts as mine is now back in all it's £300 glory.
It caused me a lot of heartache a couple of weeks ago and i ended up using my pathetic savings account to sort myself out and now they've re-instated the OD, again with no notice.
Now that i'm out of the OD I think I'll ring them up and tell them where they can stick their OD. I won't be using it again.0
