my friend works for them and has just adv me on your stmt should be a renewal date they are hardley renewing anyones even some of the staff... which is going to make a lot of people stuck that cant repay it immediately..
Agreed, I know someone who works in main Leeds call centre and they said the same - that it doesn't matter who you are or what reason they are removing o/d's at renewal for no 'apparant reason'
Interpret that as you will.....Some say he is a racist, others say he is a liar but the truth will always prevail...

That helped....!! Lets all raise a glass for this spark of helpfulness....
As much as you probably dont want to enter into a formal agreement with the bank, it is probably in your best interest to do so, especially where there appears no other way of repaying or keeping your overdraft. You said that your credit record was shaky some 6 years ago and have obviously done very well to keep it clean since, a default would take you back to where you were.
As has been mentioned as advice by others, dont feel intimidated, write a letter to them advising when and why you have agreed to make repayments against such a harsh decision and that where you can you will be seeking to have any defamatory statements made about you in any credit file removed. Equally open a ew account somewhere else and if necesary put a notice of correction on your file if it does appear. To be honest I am not sure it will.0 -
Thanks for all the replies with support and advice re what to do next, much obliged, very welcome, exactly what these forums should be about, and personally helpful in a difficult time; as for the self-righteous/ judgemental/ finger-pointing/ blame-filled/ “I'm-better-then-you”/ “Oh-come-off-it-you-must-be-lying” type replies, I hope you find more appropriate and positive ways of making yourself feel better than finding it in the misfortune of others. How sad that you actually take the time to reply with such rubbish, best of luck to you.
Anyway, enough of that: my bank, as predicted, are refusing to replace my overdraft and enter into any informal agreement where I can reduce the amount of it over a few months unless I enter into a formal “Arrangement to Pay”; just for the record, and so people are warned and informed, a formal “Arrangement to Pay” is recorded against your credit file and looks to any prospective creditor like you have not been able to pay your usual monthly payments (eg with a credit card etc). It is a very serious and negative mark on your credit file and takes the usual six years to be removed.
They said I had had warning that my overdraft was coming to and end, as the renewal date was on my statements. They acknowledged that had not sent any letters or warnings. I cannot defend myself here, as indeed, looking back now, it was listed as 11th Feb, but previously they had always sent a letter of renewal about a month before inviting me to discuss it with them. Also, it previously had been a 12 monthly arrangement, and as I renewed it in July, I (stupidly) thought that I had until them. (Note to self....check the small print,...read your statements thoroughly..).
So I guess that part of this was my own fault for not reading my statements and approaching them in time, but also, whatever happened to their basic, customer service?? I continue to be shocked by their refusal to appreciate that I want to protect my credit file and their inflexibility re repayment, and as such am continuing to refuse to enter into an “Arrangement to Pay” this as I find this entirely unreasonable. So basically, the bank is refusing me now offering £250 a month (which I could afford with extra shifts etc) to pay it off by reducing it down on a monthly basis, because the underwriters will not approve the temporary replacement of my overdraft.
I am desperately trying to find the £705 quid now, which is going to be very difficult, ugh....
I have lodged a complaint re two things: the dropped standards of customer service in not writing to me to invite me to discuss my overdraft arrangements (thus I might have had some chance to arrange some sort of payment), and their aggressive tone and inflexible repayment options (in response to a reasonable offer), which will only go to screwing up my file that I had worked hard to keep clean.
Just for the pleasure of all you “self-righteous/ judgemental/ finger-pointing/ blame-filled/ “I'm-better-then-you”/ “Oh-come-off-it-you-must-be-lying” type”s......I already feel stupid, angry, frustrated, skint and very sad at my avoidable (by both parties), but no less worrying, situation; I don't need you to further point out my faults nor your obvious lack of them.
Am selling my soul on ebay (yes I still have one)...want to buy it now for £705?0 -
As advised earlier, make a formal complaint and keep the dialogue going to buy yourself some time. Remind them they are obliged to deal with you "sympathetically" under the Banking Code, and trashing your credit rating for the sake of £700 isn't very sympathetic.
If your credit rating is generally good try applying for a super balance transfer credit card such as Virgin Money. This will let you pay cash into your current account at 0% for 16 months (although a circa 3% fee applies).
If you can pay £150-250 per month, as you say you can, then do so. DO NOT rely on the fact the card offers 16 months to pay, and has a minimum payment of only £25 per month, because life has a funny habit of dealing you a bad hand every now and then.0 -

That said, I based my response on the content of your post which stated that your overdraft "was not due for renewal until much later in the year". And in that context I stand by the reply.
As you have since said that your original post was inaccurate, that makes my reply somewhat meaningless.
But people on this (or any other) forum can only base their replies based on the information given.
Good luck resolving it.0 -
