Right back at you you pompus so and so. Instead of being useless why not say suggest something yourself? Constructive enough?

Think you'll find I actually do help people and not just say the obvious! You're comments are somewhat pathetic and to be honest iits people like you that scare newbies away.

Just remember you asked for help on here one day! Or have you forgot that?

  • I really didnt want this to turn into a slanging match, so lets all stop the arguments, I have stated my thoughts, and the better of people will apologise (as has already happened) if they caused offence. Those that take advantage of those whom appear more vulnerable are, sadly, always going to be about, maybe its better that we just ignore them now. Karma will sort them out....(look it up on google....)

Anyway, opinion4u, you were half right, I did think the overdraft was due later in the year and it was indeed my fault not to have paid more attention, could kick myself...not that I think it woul dhave made much differnece, but it might have bought me more time to get the cash together.

Saldy, I am going to borrow some of the cash off a friend, and sell some things to try to make up the rest, as I just cant bear being in this position, with the threat of a mark on my credit file. I will still peruse the complaint, as I stil feel I have been treated very badly, and will seek another current account wiht a bank that gives a !!!! (is there one?), and good riddance to the short-sighted destroyers that make up the halifax. What a disgusting organisation.

Thanks for all the help; will follow up with a complaint update.......am not holding my breath......(!!!!!!!s...grumbel grumble...)

(They'll be first against the wall when the revolution comes........)
  • Well I have had exactly the same issue as the original poster. Halifax have admitted that they did not inform me that they were removing my overdraft facility. Their argument was that the review date shows on my bank statements (something they have only recently started doing and not something I was aware off). I have had my account for nearly 20 years and as a result of this issue am having to close the account.

I do not have the ready money to pay off the balance in full ( i was given 10 days to do so when I called them) and did not want to agree to a payment arrangement. I have had to arrange a 0% balance transfer from a credit card to pay off the debt and have opened current account with another bank. I will also be looking to move my joint account elsewhere as soon as possible. Incidentally I have not been over my limit since I was a student a number of years ago. I know Halifax need to raise money fast but they also have a duty to treat their customers fairly so will be taking my complaint to ombudsman
  • This same thing has just happened to my partner this morning. No warning, same !!!!!! from the arrears department. Martyn needs to follow this up as a news story.
  • And me! Though that particular account doesn't go into the overdraft till next week when the mortgage payment comes out so no phone calls for me yet.

Another customer the Halifax is going to lose. I currently have 2 current accounts and a credit card with them. Not for much longer!

    Hi,
I've just had the same issue as OP. I don't think it is fair or accurate to say that we must have mismanaged our accounts. The lady I spoke to at Halifax told me that they have been taking away a LOT of peoples overdrafts - be warned!

I noticed my overdraft and avail balance were suddenly down to £0 yesterday and phoned up today. They said my overdraft had been reviewed (earlier statements apparently have your review date on so might be worth digging out if anyone is worried this could impact on them). They agreed to reinstate it for 1 month so that I could sort out paying it back, but after that I will have no overdraft. In the 2 days with no OD (unknown to me) I had incurred 2 charges - I'm pleased to say they agreed to cancel these after I queried it.

I appreciate that this is my debt and I was always going to have to pay it off sometime, but being a good MSE I was paying off more expensive debt first, and was planning to pay this off next year. So now I need to alter my plans. I guess I'm lucky in that I have a bit of money that I'd put away for doing up the house and a small premium bond I can cash in (as well as diverting some other debt paying-off funds) which can go some way to paying this off, but I still need to magic some more money from somewhere! It's pretty stressful.

My sympathies with anyone else in this position - chin up!
  • Yesterday RBOS removed my OD of £350, i was £165 into this OD and as a result have been hit with £140 worth of charges overnight due to this, the bank haven't told me why it was removed and after speaking to 8 different departments I was told the only way to find out was to complain.

    Brilliant service eh!

I am with Lloydstsb and have an overdraft facility of £8,400 and it was being cut to £5,400 by 26 Dec 08. The reason being because if was not used. However at Christmas I used it for about £100. They then sent me a letter advising they were not going to reduce the overdraft with I was using more of the facility.

I have been with Lloyds for a great many years and have always found them an excellent bank. What upsets me is they are tied up with HBOS.

It seems that their approach is not consistent. I am a graduate with a graduate account with the Halifax. I don't use it for spends, it is overdrawn well within the limit they gave, but I am paying it off monthly by £50 per month - it should be paid off by the end of the year. However, they rang me today offering me another card!! I declined as I have no need for it, but they can see I don't use the account, I wondered why they offered it to me as a 'loyal' customer (loyally not spending, is that what they mean??)
