Selecting O2 online PAYG tariffs?
I have bought a O2 PAYG phone and want to go onto one of their online tariffs - how do I pick the tariff? Can't see anything on their website or within the phone packaging to point me in the right direction. Is it just a case of registering the SIM online or do you need to have bought the phone through the O2 website
Sorry if i'm being thick! I can see info on the call charges etc for their PAYG tariffs but can't fathom how to choose an online tariff

There is an online sim card which cost £9.99 ordered from the website link which comes with all the details on selection of tariff, which are updated by text to O2. Afraid you missed out on a freebie offer which closed today.

Thanks - I ordered a couple of free sims yesterday through the O2 website. Will use the sim card I got with the phone to make use of the welcome allowance then switch to one of the free sims :T0

you have to ring customer services to change to the online pay as you go from the shop bought pay as you go.0

The free sims are erratic and don't always turn up (or take quite a while), but you can buy them here for 99p:

yes, but if you want to keep your number/can't be bothered to wait etc etc then it has to be done through customer services0 -
I would prefer to get a Tesco mobile sim for the phone - works out cheaper for me, but the phone is locked to O2. Anyone know if a Tesco sim would work in this phone as they use the O2 network or am I restricted to O2 sims if I don't get the phone unlocked?0

Further to my orginal reply above I changed my existing number from the high st to online tariff but it is a bit of a nightmare dealing with the O2 staff on this subject matter. On both occasions I have been told how it can be done but different operators had different versions of what was needed. I was lucky I had a friend who knew what was the correct approach and had to tell O2 they were wrong by using the online e-mail 'get it right' option. Bit of extra training needed I think.
If you have a new phone with new number not widely known to others I would recommend getting another new number with an online tariff programmed in already.
They will still charge you the £9.99 against your call credit if you keep your number.0 -
I emailed O2 to find out if I could change to an online tariff - got a reply back (very quickly too I might add!) to say yes they could arrange this. I had to email them back to confirm I wanted to go ahead and they have sent the details to the 'relevant department' to be actioned. Should be changed within 48 hours though this doesn't include weekends so it'll be Monday before they get my request.
Hope this maybe helps someone else too!0 -
See this thread for more info on the tariffs available with o2 Online PAYG, and how to switch to them.0

Covered that point in the posting immediately above your latest. You will be charged £9.99 unless they have said otherwise and I thought you were either
1) Awaiting free O2 sims
2) Using Tesco sim
I think O2 is a better option than Tesco but O2 free sims you are awaiting would be even better ( see my posting above ). Hope the process is more straightforward for you than it was for me.0 -

Yip, I decided just to stick with O2 - rather than waiting for the free sims to come through (if they arrive!) then having to send another new number to everyone I thought i'd try to get my current sim changed onto the online tariff. O2 have confirmed in my email 'You will not be charged for the tariff change' so if they try to charge me £9.99 i'll have a lot to say about it
Mind you I don't currently have a working O2 phone (as you'll see in my other thread!) so thats another thing for me to sort out.0
