As for your dumplings ( ) they want to be roughly snooker ball sized. The dough will be slightly sticky so dont expect it to be all smooth and lovely!! Shape said dough into snooker balls and place on top of stew for about the last hour (someone correct me if I'm wrong here!!) or so (ie dont add the dumplings til you get home from work!!)

    Hope that helps!!

MBE, I have a cookery book for students somewhere. In it there is a list of "basic" equipment that would be useful in a kitchen. I shall post this up for you later with explainations of what each item is for. Would that be of any help to you???

PS, This thread is as funny as the cauliflower cheese one!!

Yes please! I'm sure that would help. :T

I hope this isn't going to get expensive... :rotfl:

We should extend the decluttering philosophy and send MBE all our excess kitchen clutter! Between us I'm sure OS has enough 'spare' equipment to kit out 10 kitchens!!!

Is that so he can make the end quick and painless rather than suffer through stew related food poisoning??? :rotfl:

I was going to recommend blue plasters for stemming the blood flow during the vegatable preparation stage.

Cor! Cheers! My address is..... :D

Rikki... knives? My Swiss Army knife is quite sharp. ;)

Seriously though, I have a cheap & nasty set of about 20 that someone gave me (about 14 of which are identical, for some reason  ), but I've got a couple of reasonable ones too.

And as for me Le Creuset pots....(just kidding ;) )

  • Knives? Take a tip from street food stall operators in far flung places - they use a mini machete to deal with everything from jointing an elephant to splitting a pea.
