You have used the act, then and lost a case? what on earth is wrong for a Sky box to only last one year, or any electronic device for that matter, and then use the SOG act? it wont cost much, and i bet the majority of cases will be won by the customer.0

What does everyone make of this ~
a reasonable amount of compensation
(or "damages") for up to six years from
the date of sale (five years after discovery
of the problem in Scotland).
This does not mean all goods have to last
six years! It is the limit for making a claim in
respect of a fault that was present at the
time of sale. It is not equivalent to a
guarantee
That to me sounds like they could offer you a couple of quid as compensation and thats the end of it

Unfortunately it doesn't even mean that !
As I have said it's a pain when something dies just outside of warranty - but TBH how often does it happen ?
They could change the Law and say that everything must have a 6 year warranty - fine, but the manufacturers would double the price of everything ! The retailers would refuse to sell their products (as they are responsible) so they would force the manufacturers to ensure that everything will last for six years - they will - at a price.
And sales will fall as everything is so reliable, nobody will want a loan to buy that new HD,3D, WC TV, millions will be thrown out of work....................this sounds familiar ..................0 -

I understand your point. So what exactly DOES it mean? From what your saying I gather it doesnt have any relevence at all then? (In which case it may as well be removed):idea:0 -
I have a standard panasonic 32" flatscreen tv 100hz with surround sound, which I have had for a few years and can honestly say that the picture I get is better than some of the HD tv's in the shops. Will not be upgrading till this one falls to bits. Also at the time my tv cost £1500 (7 years ago)0

That goes without saying. A 32" 1500 quid tv from seven years ago should have outstanding pic quality.
BUT ~ a 32" flatscreen tv bought for 1500 quid NOW would blow yours out the water (An lets not forget, moneys worth less now):idea:0 -

The bottom line is: the Law says you have a 6 month warranty, most retailers give a 12 month warranty - and that is it !!!!
That is why I get a little bit "peeved" when I keep seeing posts on this site (and others) saying that the Sale of Goods Act allegedly gives you a six year warranty - it doesn't ! Sorry, I'm shouting again ........
