I would speak to his diabetic nurse Mardartha about the pasta and rice stuation. He should be able to eat them as part of a healthy diet and they shouldn't affect his bm any more than spuds.

    Does he eat soup?

Pasta sends his BG sky high, he wont eat it. Potatoes arent so bad because he only has 1 or 2 wee ones. We have tested and tested re pasta even WM and its a def no go. He is ok with porridge which is weird. But so is he. :)
Soup is terrific and we eat that every day at lunchtime .

Mard. he will be OK with porridge because it is low GI but pasta is not, neither are mashed potatoes. The best potatoes for low GI are lightly cooked in their jackets - he might even be able to have more than two ;) Another thing to try, instead of spuds, is celeriac, its delicious and nice for a change.

Better stock up on sweeties when you do your shop tomorrow, Mardatha. I couldn't stand the heartbreak of reading your posts, snowed in with no fruit gums to tide you over till the parachute-drop
