if you have care or mobility needs you can apply for DLA, you can also claim ESA if you are prevented from working.

Not being funny here hun, but there's an awful lot of families (including children) surviving on a lot less than this.

i just named 2 benefits you might qualify for, shouldn't you be researching these if you're so desperate for money?

i am appling for DLA but im not holding my hopes as every time i get told you may be entitled it turns out to be a no your not, sorry for being a tad techy but its reay soul destroying to be tossed onto the heap with no aid at all. i dont want any more than others but i want the same help. also cause im not entitled to benifits non government orginisations wont help me either, so its a great situation with no way out i want to work but due to my medical issues i cant take any job as it needs to be suitable for me needs. im flexible with what i can do as i dont mind pushing myeslf physicaly occasionaly (walkinh is hard bit occasonal say site visits arent an issue as an example but work on sites all day every day is impossible) but i will not drive myself into shoick every day at work which is what i have had to do in the past.

ELA? what is that may i ask as its totaly unknown to me

You'd get a lot more sympathy and help from people on this board if you were less agressive in your tone. Also, might I suggest you use the spell check facility? It will make your post easier to read.

    Paul,

I think you need to be clearer in your posts as to what you have done to try and get benefits - have you been to the Jobcentre? What exactly did they say to you? Who else have you spoken to and what was the outcome?

By the way, the £17,000 you both live on is reasonable - try living on £11,000 a year like me and my two growing children/teenagers! I, too, have spent years working, paying my tax and NI contributions. But, there is light at the end of the tunnel as I now have a new job to start soon.

If you make the effort to contact the relevant agencies and push for work or whatever then you will get help.

£17k is enough for a couple to live on if you are frugal. When I was a single parent, my total income including tax credits was just over £10k for me and two children, and we managed.

Draw up a Statement of Affairs (SOA). Use this online tool to help:
    http://www.makesenseofcards.com/soacalc.html

Make sure you include all your spending. You might need to keep a spending diary so you can see where money gets spent. People tend to forget about small things like buying a coffee and paper on the way to work, but it all mounts up!

Then see if there are ways you can cut costs. Post your SOA on the debt free wanabee board if you want people to look over it and offer suggestions.

    Best of luck!

    Hello Paul,
Is it possible that you come across to others as you do here?
This is not a criticism, but it's perhaps not a helpful habit for a University-educated person(did you obtain your Degree?)to write here/anywhere in such an error-ridden way, without any concern for spelling/grammar or setting out.

It makes you hard to understand.

If this carries over when you speak to people[especially those who want to help], perhaps fuelled by the anxiety of a repeat scenario history, you are not going to come across as able or articulate.
There seem to be pointers in what you write of your past that suggest this.

mumoftwins is correct in all she says - you could read her Threads to know about hardship and struggles, along with those of MANY others.

This is not said to minimise what you are feeling - all sense of suffering is relative. With regard to your physical limitations(mumoftwins has those, too), your GP surely is aware enough to supply verification for any Authority needing it?

If you can sit quietly and marshall your thoughts, ideas, hopes and set them down as bullet points for meetings/interviews/posts here, you will give yourself a much better chance on this site and elsewhere.

The current financial situation will be less kind to those who do not present well, appear to offer their best side, try hard.

I want to encourage you, as others have and hope your frustration/anger bashes on the keyboard here are in contrast to the 'you' others see.

Nothing wrong with that, but the difficulty it makes for those who want to help....and that's THAT circle completed.

So, before we set off round the goldfish bowl again, accept that people want to help - and do your bit in making yourself helpable.

You should certainly seek an appt with a Specialist Benefits Advisor via your local CAB - they'll come to your home if you need this.

    Good luck, Paul.

I think maybe the OP has applied for JSA and Council tax Benefit and been refused because his partner's income is too high.

OP, I would carry on with the DLA appeal as you say, get a Welfare Rights Advisor from the CAB (Citizen's Advice) to help you.

I think your partner's income may be too high for you to claim any means-tested benefits, but actually £17k is OK, many people (myself and husband included) manage on far less than this.

Get yourself over to the Debt-free Wannabee board where they will be able to help you with budgeting, and also the OldStyle board where they will be able to help you to live really cheaply.

DLA is not means-tesed, so you partner's income won't be counted.
