The car HAS been moved, as i mentioned before, we have moved the car a few times to check its still running ok. The battery was removed from the car to stop oiks from nicking it.
A few yards to another space in the car park? I doubt council officials mark the exact location (ie parking space) of every potentially abandoned car.

If they can't say whether the car has moved or not, then how do they know its abandoned.. Its not on the street, its not burned out in the middle of a round about.. its in a car park, where cars are left!
It does make me wonder how far councils will go these days, all for a bit of extra cash, lol..0 -

Because the mileage hasn't increased for several weeks/months?
If you don't need a permit to park there, and the public have free access to it, how would they know that a car parked there wasn't abandoned by a non-resident??0 -

EXACTLY!!! The council have access to registration check. Why couldn't they have done this, our house in 5 seconds from the car park, its not a far walk to ask us if the car is abandoned or not!!
The milage would have incresed, I've stated twice now, the car HAD been moved!!0 -
Im sorry, but if you have nothing to help me with this, please do not post. Im after advise on how to HELP with this situation, not critisism.
To those who have helped, thank you so much. My husband is now typing up a letter for the council, and is also sending an email to the council's legal department.0 -

Moved out of the car park, over a mile at a time?
I agree with you completely that the council have failed to do the required checks. But I can see why they might think the car had been abandoned.
Good luck with getting it back.0 -
The council/police should have carried out PNC's on the vehicle and contacted the owners prior to the vehicle's removal!
Good point. when my Council have mounted these operations the Police and DVLA have been present. Checks are made and may indeed be a requirement of the legislation still. OP should check if there is anything about this in the newer legislation - i would imagine so.
In my case the explanantion was a check was carried out and it transpired not registered at that address or street. i had been living between my own home, 3/4 mile away in same Borough and my OH home. They had knocked on just one door (next door) to ask. Doh!

You don't have to go a mile for it to clock over, there are tenths of a mile numbers also.
