Are RBS shares worth a punt?

The Dow fell nearly 5% (almost 400 points).
Not too good early signs then
But am looking a bit more a few months down the line, sell up and get out. Will be interesting to see how it all goes. Not into just the one sector and I'd say one of them will pay off as shares are at or near record lows.0 -
Hi there- I'm new to the boards but would like to reply to RBS share punting ideas.
I receintly bought 1000 RBS shares at 15.8pence. I'm looking for around 40 - 50 pence to get me thinking about selling. If I can make a few hundred quid I'd be happy. The key I think is to decide what you want to risk. Do your homework on buying / selling commission charges and tax. For me my "break even" figure is 23.1 pence per share meaning if I sold at that point all my charges would be covered and the whole experiance would have cost me nothing.
I think this is worth the risk for me. It's the first time I've got involved in share dealing and I think it's a fascinating - but risky business!
Good luck

Picked my RBS up at a higher price, but no movement as yet really, think I'm £66 down on all my shares today, but as made over £1000 on my barclays shares I've not lost out in any way shape or form. Barclays have dropped around 10p since I sold, can't see them doubling in value anytime soon, but would be a very good long term investment if anyone has money to sit around for a while.
RBS is very much a gamble, long term they should go up. But will have to see how things progress over the next 10 months. Hopefully I can make a few hundred or cut and run if it looks like they're more likely to go to the wall. I'm aware there will be indecators on how they go as the year progresses.
Hope we both me a bit of cash from them

Still waiting for my 10 to 15p bounce on prices. Lloyds took all the bank shares down today, but now they are looking good value for a long ish term buy in...0

At least now the debt's out in the open (at least some of it anyway, there may be more shocks to come).
Hopefully RBS wont be much worse off than we already expect (altho they're like the masons for secrets).
I was always looking at 3-4 years, once I've broke even (probably about 32p RBS lol) i'll set a 10% trailing stop loss and take it from there.0 -

I'm looking at a year or so, have found out I can run my accounts from overseas as going to work in Aus for a few years. Hopefully will get a nice nest egg for whenever I decide to cash in. Is very gloomy for banks at the mo, but they are an essential part of everyday life so should be a good bet!0 -
Why not BAC..Bank of America? not long ago $40 a go ,today about $6.50. When the US new stimulus package takes flight,BAC may well be the first to lift off.
Im also into Premier foods and northern foods, both very cheap at present and people will always need to eat.
Your BAC advice is good. A very good buy imo. My top 3 $ shares to buy at the moment are:
BAC - $5.57
WFC - $15.76
COST - $42.760 -

COST, WFC, BAC?
Is that Costain Group PLC, Watford Leisure PLC & Bank of America?
Think the EPIC must be the same as some UK shares lol.
Think I'm going for real punt on Lloyds once they hit rock bottom, can't see them climbing anytime soon until the speculation dies down or they are nationalised!!!:eek:0 -
Just for anyone gambling on these, that naked trader guy bought 10k rbs but had his bet target at 25p0
